RE: UTEP off season basketball news
We're still holding our breath at Rice - goodness knows we've had it as bad as anybody the last few years. But so far so good, this year (we did lose two players but they were legitimate end of the bench guys who knew they weren't going to get any playing time at Rice in the future).

In the last 5 years, we've lost a NBA draft choice, and transfers to Duke, Villanova, USC and a few others who ended up starting on NCAA teams or leading their team in scoring at a lesser D1 school. This is really an issue the NCAA needs to address. I personally don't think transfers should be immediately eligible unless they've graduated - I don't what hardship people claims, most of the time they're bogus claims.

RE: UTEP off season basketball news
It looks like UTEP has found new players. Adrian Moore, 6'4" shooting guard, has given a verbal to UTEP and is expect to sign. Not too much information on him but I did find a couple of things. Moore is ranked the #46 overall player and #13 shooting guard by Future150. He isn't ranked anywhere else however. Verbal commits shows him having offers from Baylor, Arkansas, Wake Forrest and Vanderbilt.

Chris Barnes has also committed to UTEP. Barnes is 6'3" shooting guard that only had one other offer according to verbal commits. Not that excited about Barnes but he might work out.

I don't know what would happen if he was able to land more recruits than scholarships. I'd imagine that he would ask one of his players to give up his.

Perhaps this is why some players leave before they get left out in the cold.

The last 3 Marshall coaches do this as well. They always have more on scholarship on signing day than they have scholarships available. This year is no exception. It was announced last week however, that one of the current players will transfer. The coaches will always make room for who they want. They simply tell a kid that there will be no PT for him next year.. In most cases, the coach then helps him find another home Sometimes at a DII school. In the end, the kid doesn't really care. They just want to play ball.

This is what upset my about how Floyd handled the Hamilton situation. If you recall Hamilton had to sit out a year because Floyd wouldn't release him.

It's not fair that a kid has to commit and basically sign a contract to play but on the other hand, the coach isn't obligated to give a kid a scholarship. It's dirty pool if you ask me.

Anyhow, I've known since basically the first game of Floyd's first season that he wasn't going to be successful at UTEP. He cannot connect with today's type of player.

Congrats UTEP donors and season ticket holders. This is exactly what you wanted.

I still remember his first game back as HC. The orange out vs Pacific. A sold out crowd an Orange star on the mountain and a defeat.

Yup. That was the last UTEP game I ever went to. I knew it as soon as he benched Culpepper for jacking up a three early in the shot clock.

It's been 6 long years ever since.

I am fed up with Floyd too but you saw him coach one game and you were done? Hell of a fan, right there.

RE: UTEP off season basketball news
Just a couple of rumors from our Rivals board...... Roman Silva, a 7'0" signee from California, may have already quit the program. Adrian Moore, who was mentioned above, hasn't been heard from for a while. Apparently, the athletics department put together some videos with the new players and he wasn't included. We're also recruiting another player for the upcoming season, so there's a pretty good chance that we're going to have at least one more addition to the illustrious list of players recruited by Tim Floyd who didn't even make the first practice.

He's ruined the only season that I really care deeply about, so I'll take whatever chance I have to take a shot at him.

And, the guy we were recruiting signed with not UTEP. Anyone on here have any eligibility left?
