Hopefully we will hear the results before happy hour starts. At least I'll have a reason to drink this week!

They'll rubber stamp his renewal, mainly because those that were collectively responsible for his hire would have to admit they were wrong.

From what I was told, he is getting renewed. BOV member credits him with several seven figure donations due to Alger's efforts. Said he is a far better fundraiser than Rose.

Rose, in a meeting with a whale donor, would have procured a major seven figure donation to our athletic program. Hat on backwards Alger insisting that no matter what the donation amount, "You will not tell me how to do things" screwed up the fundraising for the new Convo. The BOV whom renew Alger's contract have zero intestinal fortitude

If, as they claim, Alger is a better fundraiser than Rose, that is more a reflection on Rose's inability than it is Alger's ability.

As far as Alger goes with raising my funds. He has decreased them to $1, the absolute minimum, he hasn't raised them (and many others I know of).

There is no doubt that there are few posters on this board that support Alger. I do recommend that folks review the President's report that is provided after each BOV meeting. Will give insight to what he does to earn the boards support.

If that is truly how a large benefactor was talked to it is a case of not knowing how to sell. I have never been in fund raising, so I might be incorrect, but I would think you give the donor every reason to believe they are buying a large amount of prestige and influence. You probably never have to challenge them, but never do so until and if that occasion ever arises. At least wait until the check clears.

Is the JMU BOV counting the two spaces to the right of the decimal to give their Jon Boy a nudge?

Are any other posters employed in Higher Ed? Alger does not carry an esteemed rep among his contemporaries, from what I can tell.

I don't have connections to the opinions of the university's higher ups and their opinion of JMU and Alger, but just from seeing this university's president compared to Alger, it's night and day. He runs laps around Alger.

Most professors at JMU will get really quiet when you ask them about what they think about Alger.

Yea. My employer just brought in a new guy, but the old guy was a great leader. Personable, popular, an actual academic with a doctorate, and a proven fund raiser.

The saddest part is that compared to this, I miss rose. Rose was nothing to write home about either.

RE: O/T BOV meeting today in Festival Boardroom
A few weeks ago Alger had lunch with Carrier in the student success center (Carrier's options that day must have been zero but that is beside the point).

When leaving the building, Alger and Carrier passed a table of students raising funds, I am not sure of the cause but I know it was a university approved activity. Alger was in front of Carrier.

Alger walked past the table but did not acknowledge the students whom were obviously trying to gain Alger's attention. Our beloved Uncle Ron was embarrassed.

The University sells itself, which is why Alger is getting anything. He can't even persuade me to donate $1 and I have been extremely loyal to this University. I cannot fathom how he alone could convince someone with far deeper pockets than mine to give him money.
