Zero chance! They congratulated themselves on excellent coaching hires for football and mbb and probably honored kb for his outstanding tenure. A state of the union that we are doing great In a very fluid environment.

I didn't see any twitter activity or news coming out so I assume there's no news about topics yet? Meeting minutes should be posted by Monday.

All those tuition increases, and still no COA, huh? Here's to hoping the conference pushes for it in an attempt to stay competitive.

RE: O/T BOV meeting today in Festival Boardroom
There was a "closed session" that doesn't mention topic, which is interesting, though I suppose it could have been something as simple as debating the real estate purchases.

Also - don't see anything stating Alger was renewed, so maybe either he wasn't yet, or that was deferred to June timeframe?

That was going to be my answer as well. And there was a section of the most recent minutes that were listed as closed.

Board meeting usually have closed/executive sessions.

Which is often the juciest part of the meeting, but hard to know if anything discussed today was related to athletics or Alger. It does seem either Alger was not up for renewal today, or they elected not to make that information public yet.

You would think this was a joke but I've fallen out of love with JMU. I'm sorry, I just can't stomach this bull**** anymore.

They can't take any official votes in closed session - can only do that in open session. They also have to declare what they are discussing in closed session, generally - legal matters, personnel matters, etc.

RE: O/T BOV meeting today in Festival Boardroom
Hey! We had another meeting where we were told stuff we could have just read in a report. Iceburg you say? Write up a report and let's discuss making a decision at our next meeting on whether to turn or not. Slap backs...shake hands...ask about family and go rest ...all the anxiety about having to cast a vote where ....gasp....someone may get mad and not slap back, shake my hand, ask about my family is really stressful and tiring! I mean you and I both know the ivory tower is unsinkable right??RIGHT!

RE: O/T BOV meeting today in Festival Boardroom
Maybe the closed section of the BOV meeting is an off the record opportunity for the board to speak and ask questions:

-"The acronyms, CAA & COA, what is the CAA and WTF is a COA?"
-"JMU has a football team?"
-"Let's bet on who can guess how many times Jon will say the word 'diversity.'"
-"is this meeting considered a national dialogue?"
-"where does Jon buy his suits, Alfred Neys at the Shenandoah Valley Mall?"
-"I hoped that Aramark would offer lobster today, chicken and rice again sucks!"
-"hey, look out the window, Jeff Bourne is painting over 'Fire Alger' on a large purple rock"
-"what is an engaged university?
-"OMG, I just looked at Madison Magazine in the sh###er and there is a pic of Jon wearing a cowboy hat backwards"

pretty cut and dry batch of minutes. Business as usual. Surprised there's no extension announcement. On to the June meeting I guess... but Alger will be extended, take it to the bank JarOfPennies.jpg. Actually if you ask me that list of the president's report is the longest one I've seen in a while. Is he compensating? Or are things that good at JMU these days? Both?

That tuition/fees hike - WOW. That's the biggest jump in the last decade worth of minutes I breezed through through.

lol at people getting upset about JMU's BOV meetings.

As long as we continue to bring in the quality kids that we do, JMU will continue to be a great university and will be overwhelmingly sought after by the latest high school students.

The moment we either think we too good for our britches, or go the other direction and start allowing those who are far below our standards into this great university, all will start to unravel. The problem we have is that our students want to leave JMU to only a memory rather than continue to push it long after graduation.

I have seen them buy other properties in that area. My guess is that they are slowly trying to buy all of the property in that corner of Main Street and Port Republic Road. I think someone said before that they buy these houses and then rent them to faculty that is new to the area.

RE: O/T BOV meeting today in Festival Boardroom
real estate adjacent to campus has always been getting bought up. They own most of the homes over between the convo and the days inn too in the "forest hills" area. If ever the need for campus expansion, those two corners of campus would be great expansion options. Most everything else is bordered by major arterial roadways
