Let's just end your stupid hypothetical game... If we are assuming that Marshall will not make the NCAA tournament for the first 5 years because that is simply what he did at WSU. Then we have to carry that to its logical conclusion, and that after year 5 he will also have the exact same results. So, yes, all things equal, if I have to go the next 5 years without watching an NCAA tournament win for Memphis but that includes an NIT championship then shortly thereafter followed by a Final Four and Sweet Sixteen, I will gladly support him for the first 5 years...

Duly noted for the record.

Stuff it.

Seth have some sympathy - 1983 is having a bad day.

You and your cohorts are quite good at leveling disparaging remarks at Tiger fans, but deficient in stating your expectations for the next coach.

I think agitators and malcontents like you will be right back at work slamming the new coach because it is part of your engrained nature. You cannot help yourself.

Prove me wrong. State your expectations now for the record.

I don't know how anyone could have expectations when we don't know who the new coach is yet. My expectations for a team with Gregg Marshall as head coach would be different from a team with Steve Forbes as HC and considerably different than a team with Penny Hardaway as HC.

1. Noticeable improvement
2. retain players
3. Beat a team with equal or better talent 2-3 times per season
4. Win the games we are supposed to win
5. Don't screw up the Lawson situation

For starters? I could dig that.

A coach with a track record of success will get more time, at least with me anyway. Another boy wonder spewing lies won't. Do you understand this or is this above your intelligence level?

No love for Buzz, huh? Maybe it's just me, but Buzz is my top choice.

I'm not a fan of pedigree coaches, so don't like Wojo. Being honest, I had to look up who Ben Jacobsen was (he's the Northern Iowa coach for any who don't know) - don't like hiring fluky - my opinion - coaches from NCAA tourney runs - see Andy Enfield at USC.

List gets thin pretty quick if we miss on Marshall or Buzz. IMO Miller is young and waiting for something bigger.

Why is this relevant. He took Wichita State to a final four...

Are you willing to pledge now to support the next coach for five years without a single NCAA Tourney victory?

What are you even talking about? IF it were Marshall (which I see as unlikely personally) I would not be worried about that considering he has been to the NCAA tournament every year for the last 5 years including a Sweet 16 and Final Four...

Marshall did not earn his first NCAA Tourney victory until his six year at Wichita St. I ask if you would support the next coach for five years even without an NCAA Tourney win.

It depends.....we supported Cal. Does the team have a chance going in, then yeah you support him. You could lost on a last second heave like Texas this year. But if you are getting blown out then....

I felt this way until that weasel decided he should publicly start degrading Memphis fans, students, and basketball history...

I didn't know he did that -- can someone remind me what happened there? I wasn't in the message board or reading the news about whatever that was whenever it happened.

Just for a short tangent visualizing different things --

Does anyone have a clear idea what one might expect with Penny as a college head coach (or major college head coach such as our job)? I know it seems silly since he is a high school coach but is there any way to envision him coaching college since we haven't seen him do that yet? How would he handle it? What are his strengths? Has he done any college assisting yet?

His downsides are obvious in that he has no NCAA head coaching experience. Can anyone articulate what his strengths are in his x's and o's? He would seemingly be great as a recruiter. I wonder if it is time for Penny to come in somewhere as an assistant and start his march toward head coaching somewhere later if he feels he has that type of leadership and strategy skill in him. He is 44 now.

To be honest some fans in here griped about Cal too when he would blow a game. Until he flew the coop, and then we were outraged as though we had never complained.

Remember that he called the gripers the "Miserables"?
