Different issues.

Singular one was it seems untoward to continue trashing him now.

To each his own. That fairly gentle statement seems to have reacted a feeding frenzy...again.

Don't flatter yourself. No matter how many times you repeat your mantras concerning Pastner's performance here it will not make them true.

He seems to have been a nice, if rather odd and eccentric person. He is, at best, at average head coach. He took over a national BRAND of a program at Memphis, with every conceivable built in advantage, and over the course of five years damn near destroyed it.

I will not deify him or thank him for that nor will I pretend he was better than he was just because he is now gone.

Agree.

And while short of elite level success, was on an upward path for five seasons until the last two disappointing years.

Just easier for many I guess.

How do you think he'd have done this year if he'd have stayed?

He took over a program that had every single advantage a coach needs to succeed. Every. Single. One. And he screwed it up.

When he took over he had the Memphis brand to sell and then the Big East. He got lucky with a crop of Memphis kids that WANTED to play for Memphis and he underachieved every year.

He has trashed the brand and left this program in far worse shape than it was in when he took it over.

There's no defending what he did here. Even an average coach taking over when he did would have done better with the embarrassment of riches he had at his finger tips. Money, support, facilities. A national brand. Moving up to the Big East ( he had that to sell to the 2013 recruiting class).

Jeebus.......

That's when I started getting upset at CJP. No matter what the pro-CJP apologists say, CJP's was straight out trolling the fan base near the end. I really think CJP knew that he was on his way out starting in February.

I still cannot believe that we lucked out so much in that GTech hired CJP.

I agree there is no need to be kicking someone around and wishing him ill when they have left and we weren't upset he left. I wish for Pastner to have good luck in whatever he does in the future. I don't want to focus attention on him now and want him to be allowed to leave in peace focused on his next challenge, which is not our problem.

We don't have anything else to do until they hire someone else, I guess.

Would you have rather had him hold us hostage to the tune of $10.6 million?

Wow, that's a homegrown crew. Lots of great size for our forwards and guards, but need an additional center from 6-10 to 7-1 to help out Nick M. With one more center, do we have depth?

How did the $10.6 million buyout work and how did we get around GT needing to pay that if that is what a buyout means? If that amount is what WE would have to pay to fire him, well, we didn't fire him. So it would seem that this figure has something to do with a fee another team normally has to pay to buy out his contract with us? I'm confused.

It's really not that hard.

We agreed to pay Josh $1.2M over the next 2 years so that Josh would agree to void his contract and accept the GTech job.

It's been pretty much accepted that since we so vastly overpaid Josh, that we would have to supplement Josh's new contract if he could find anyone stupid enough to hire him.

Yeah, because sooooo many colleges have 6'10-7'1 guys littering their rosters.

Both parties want out of the contract. But we won't fire him because of the cost and he wont take a job for substantially less money. We waive the buyout he has to pay to get out, and offer to make him whole for a couple of years. Both parties get what they want without it costing them what the status quo ante would have.

I don't get why this is so hard for people.
