Not really, according to the reports we will make up the difference between his compensation with UofM and GT. Apparently about $4 mil.

The good news is about $6 mil of money that was committed to JP can be used for the new guy.

We are not saving $10 million but probably $5-$6 mil.

My guess is that this was already talked about. And known about.

RE: So not firing Josh actually turned out to be a good idea
It's turned out awesome. It can't be understated how the national narrative about Memphis shifts because of which side cut the cord. I think Verno mentioned it, but it's very positive now. If we kicked him out on the street, the same media praise would have been replaced with remarks defending his time here and assailing unrealistic expectations. They have no need to do so, bc the Pastner initiated it, and is immediately landing on his feet, almost no need for media empathy for an underperforming nice guy.

Local booster supporters also dont have to worry, so unless something else contaminated relationships, their pursestrings should loosen.

And thats on top of the aforementioned simple accounting advantage in the budget.

Seriously, we hit the river on this. Pocket 2s. And the Rockets lost to the Suns. Best day for Memphis basketball when neither team played, as someone tweeted last night.

Go Tigers, Go Grizz, Go Redbirds (and Autozone Park season returned!!).

Exactly right, Kabluey, it's like drawing a gut straight on the river. Just incredible.

Any money to make up the difference is so irrelevant.

Thanks to Georgia Tech's desperate insanity, our re-build accelerates by years.

The ESPN article says that Pastner has to pay his $500,000 for leaving early. That doesn't sound like the kind of situation where we would have to pay him ANYTHING.

Contractually this is correct, but GT's AD and ours may have worked a deal where we pay part of Pastner's salary. They are on the hook for their last coach's salary and we pay less than we would over the duration of Pastner's memphis contract and part ways with him same time.

That's his buyout in the contract. Most people are guessing that since we wanted him gone, we've probably negotiated to pay him to facilitate moving to the new job since GT may not have been able to make it worth his while to move otherwise. I don't know that anyone knows the actual details yet.

According to Calkins' twitter, Memphis pays the difference between Josh's yearly salary of $2.6 million and whatever GT pays--but only for 2 years.

If I was GT I'd pay him zero and let Memphis pay it all, but I imagine they are giving him around a million, and Memphis may only have to pay a grand total of $3.2, but who knows?

Remember those sorry posts calling out one of our major supporters and the AD and President. Maybe, just maybe, they are smarter than you originally thought.
