Things of note from ECU's Board of Trustees meeting re: Stadium Expansion and Lebo
Compher details stadium upgrades

Quote:Director of Athletics Jeff Compher told board members the university is going ”full speed ahead” with plans to renovate the south side of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium following the 2017 football season. The upgrade will primarily mean a redesigned system of seating that will allow fans opportunities for many different views and game experiences, but also a new press box on that side of the stadium.

“To date we have, either through signed agreements or pledges ($6.4 million) raised, and we’ve done that in about 40 days,” Compher said, adding that a large share of the planned premium seating packages has already been sold. ”We had a big commitment yesterday that is not in this number that we feel very good about and have several verbal commitments that we’re working on right now in order to get the project going.”

The goal is to reach $10 million in donated money by the end of the summer.

More than $6 million and a large share of the premium seating sold in just over a month -- say what you want about Compher, but those are extremely promising results. Keeping in mind also that this is only money specifically pledged for the project, and does not include any other athletics-related donations.

If anything, it proves that the coaching switch came from "above," and that the big whigs liked the hire of Coach Mo.

Lebo also addressed the Athletics and Advancement Committee in person.

It doesn't appear that he got grilled or asked too many tough public questions. However, I can say from my experience I don't remember he or Ruffin ever doing this in the past. Typically you'll see the AD giving end-of-season reports. I may be wrong, but take with that what you will:

Quote:ECU basketball coach Jeff Lebo, who Compher noted has now won 99 games with ECU, also addressed the committee to discuss his team’s tough finish to his sixth season. Lebo described the rash of transfers in college hoops, a trend that has negatively impacted his team with three impending departures.

“In this day and age in college basketball, and in our culture in general, when things get tough and you face adversity, you want to leave. You want to transfer and go somewhere else,” said Lebo, whose team accrued a notable 2.91 grade point average for the fall semester last year and also knocked off perennial powers Temple and Memphis last season. ”In basketball, it’s very prevalent from AAU to high school and then on to college.”

Lebo said there were roughly 750 transfers last year in Division I and will be more than 800 this year. That equals about three transfers per team.

“It’s an epidemic,” he said.

Meh, whatever. He's used this excuse every season since Robert Sampson left for Georgia Tech. That was what, 4 years ago?

I'm excited to see what the renderings look like. I believe all total it will be a $55 million project and from what players have said that have seen the plans it's going to really change the face of our Stadium. It's certainly long overdue.

It is $55 million. I was under the impression that if enough money was raised by the end of this year that ECU would seek approval to start after the 2016 season. Guess I had that wrong.

Suites are $40,000 per year with 3, 6 or 9 year commitments. I may have this next piece wrong but here goes. 12 seats outside the suite with 4 seats inside the suite but the glass is retractable so all seats can be open air. Suites have the usual amenities found at other football venues.

Club seating is $2,500 per seat per year with 3, 6 and 9 year commitments.

Stadium reseating occurs every three years, thus the 3, 6 and 9 year terms.

The money pledged is strictly to pay for the project. Fully funded by the people buying suites or club seating. Cool that we won't have to seek funding for this. I wonder if this will inflate the athletic budget like it has at other schools. Could may the numbers look a lot more impressive.

Or the fact that 19 of those wins were against non D1 opponents.

I have been told 2018, been waiting a long time for this.

It's all downhill now... He's an under .500 coach and he will never get over .500 playing in the AAC.
If ECU wants an improved Lebo, it needs to move to a conference like CUSA.

The question is, if improving a priority at ECU.

Yes, if it follows the 2017 season the project would be done by the start of the 2018 season. I was wrongly under the impression it would be the year before. I should have figured it out as this lines up with the 3yr stadium reseating plan.
