2016 USA Wrestling Olympic Trials - Any KSU Alums Trying Out?
The 2016 USA Wrestling Olympic Trials are starting this weekend. Was wondering if any KSU alums are participating. Dustin Kilgore?

I know Kilgore is still ranked 4th in the USA but I am not sure if he is competing. My guess is yes but the three ahead of him will be tough for him to beat. I don't think any one else from Kent will even compete. They keep cutting the number of weight classes which doesn't make it any easier. I think those trials are today and tomorrow in Iowa (where else, they will pack the arena I'm sure).

Danny Mitcheff made it to the semi-finals of the Last Chance Olympic Trials Qualifier at 57 kg but lost in the final so he didn't get a berth in the Trials.

Kilgore is competing. He has beat Bergman (former Buckeye) before but Varner (Olympic gold medalist) and Snyder (world champion) are "kinda" tough.

Killer's opening match is against Blaize Cabell who wrestled at 285 for Northern Iowa this past year. Dustin should have no problem with him. He would then wrestle Wynn Michalak, formerly of CMU and one of Killer's training partners. Michalak has beaten Killer before but Killer has won more against him. Assuming 2 wins, he'd have Bergman and then in all probability Varner. Hopefully, age is catching up to both Bergman and Varner as Dustin has struggled against both.

Then, he'd have Snyder on Sunday night. Killer will have to wrestle and beat 4 opponents, while Snyder just has to watch and wait as the incumbent. Easy, right?

Kilgore beat Cabell 7-5. He was down and came back.
Kilgore beats Michalak - had the lead for most of the match but fell behind and had to fight back and then hold on.
Freestyle is more exciting than folk...once you understand the scoring which can be confusing at times.
Bergman is next for Killer.

Kilgore lost to Varner 6-0 and will wrestle Snyder in the finals. In another weight class MAC champion J'Den from Missouri will wrestle Kyle Dake in the finals.

Varner looked very sharp. Killer needs some work to be the best of the best. Still, an amazing trials for him with marked improvement in his game and strategy. Bergman will probably retire and Kilgore looks to be better than all but Varner and Snyder. If I'm not mistaken, top 3 make the team and Killer won his true 3rd place match against Burak.
