If it's trending up, the new guys gets rope. If it doesn't after year 3....

Until people start bitching? That will happen with the first loss. Too many armchair coaches here.

First year is a pass. Pastner has left the program in far, far worse shape than was handed to him. He has TRASHED the program.

Second year at least NIT

Third year Deep NIT run / maybe make the NCAA tourney

4th year solid NCAA tournament team / Top 25 all year / maybe see second weekend

5th year: NCAA S16 or bust / Top 15 team

I figure we suck next year, we suck less in year 2 and you can see the program really coming together and by year 3 we're a real team again with a legit shot at the NCAA tournament. By year 4 we need to be Top 25 all year.

Anything less than the conf. championship game in season one is regression from this year.

So 26-9 with a loss in the AAC semis but an at large bid is regression?

RE: So how long do we give the new coach?
I agree with the poster that said it depends on the coach we hire. This program is a complete mess right now, and its going to take a couple years minimum to get that's straightened out. Dedric is back so that's a huge plus. I would guess barring any unforeseen Tic Price or NCAA violation type scandals, then anyone should have 4-5 years. I would say there are exceptions, but by that point you know where the program is headed. We might not even be where we want to be at that point or we may be much further along than expected, but you will see the trajectory of the program by year 4 to 5. If you hire a Williams or Marshall, then you are looking at a 5 year minimum commitment through all ups and downs anyway. If those guys were gone before that then its because some blueblood came calling, which would mean that guy just turned us around quickly and did a great job in his time here.

Do you realize that even Marshall could not match your requirements in his first five years at Wichita St.? SMH

My expectations are the same as those of Wichita State fans and Administration concerning Marshall - a solid run in the NCAA Tourney within six years.

True, baring an at-large NCAA Tourney or NIT spot.

The masses should prepare for a rough first two seasons or so regardless of the name of the new head coach.

No, I did t look. Everything is relative. I think unfortunately the above is probably a best case scenario. We stuck with Pastner at least 2 years too long.

It's a rebuild from the ground up but it's also badketball as opposed to football so it can happen a little quicker.

Only in the eyes of those who care about the Bible's admonition against the sin of fornication. Better than adultery, I guess.

Seriously it's not that bad a drive from Nashvegas to Hotlanta. Just be careful around Monteagle
