Something something Nashville, something something Memphis
God, Gays, and Guns!!! it's all the TN legislature thinks about...even in 2016

http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/pol.../82625250/

Quote:Tennessee is poised to make history as the first state in the nation to recognize the Holy Bible as its official book.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/gov...59461.html

Quote:WASHINGTON — A national civil rights group warned Tuesday that Tennessee could see the same kind of backlash North Carolina is facing if the state enacts legislation requiring transgender students to use bathrooms that match their sex at birth.

"It's clear that when states have discriminatory laws or come close to passing discriminatory laws, there is an outpouring of opposition from the business community," said Chase Strangio, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union's LGBT and HIV Project.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/gov...92451.html

Quote:NASHVILLE — The state House approved a bill Wednesday giving state-licensed professional counselors and therapists legal authority to deny service to clients on the basis of the counselor's "sincerely held principles" — a measure opposed by the American Counseling Association as a "hate bill" against gay and transgender people.

The bill is the latest in a series of "religious freedom" measures considered by Tennessee lawmakers. Later Wednesday, a House committee was scheduled to consider a controversial bill aimed at requiring transgender students to use the school restrooms of the gender on their birth certificates, another bill condemned by critics.

Quote:NASHVILLE — A House panel today approved legislation that strips Tennessee public colleges and universities of their ability to bar handgun-carry permit holders from storing weapons in their vehicles.

House Education Administration & Planning members approved the bill, sponsored by Rep. Courtney Rogers, R-Goodlettsville, on a voice vote.

The bill, which passed the GOP-run Senate on a 29-0 vote with the support of two top Senate Democratic leaders, now goes to the House Calendar and Rules Committee, where it would need to pass before proceeding to the Senate floor.

never mind the crumbling infrastructure...under performing schools...and crime.

lol, OK...I guess Nashvegas is the shining city on the hill

Quote:Tennessee's metropolitan areas made up a large chunk of the violent crimes, according to the report. Memphis' violent crime rate ranks fifth in the nation while Nashville ranks 18th...

On the streets of downtown Nashville, some Lexington, Kentucky tourists said they were familiar with the report.

For B.J. Sparks it reaffirmed what she has always kept in mind when visiting large cities.

“Stay away from downtown at night alone, unless you are with others or a tour,” she told News 2 on her way to grab lunch on Lower Broadway, adding, “But I am not going to let it stop me on something I want to do.”

Don't worry....Memphis is still one of the most dangerous cities in the US

http://wreg.com/2015/04/10/fbi-ranks-mem...rous-city/

Quote:A new report from the FBI, claimed Memphis is the third most dangerous city in the nation.
The study compared crime rates of cities with populations over 200,000.

Memphis was only just ranked below Detroit and Oakland, California, but the Chair of the Crime Commission Ben Adams said he isn't sure how accurate the rankings are.

Cordarro Vaughn's a lifelong Memphian, and he was anything but surprised when he heard the FBI labeled Memphis the third most dangerous city in the country.

He said he believes much of the crime is the product of our poverty rate, which is just under 28%.

"I'm one of them, because I don't have a job. I'm a convicted felon too," he said.

yep, both Nashville and Memphis are getting better...but I'll never understand why folks want to point at Memphis crime, while ignoring Nashville's VERY high crime rate.

Quote:There are only six cities in the U.S. where it’s more dangerous to live in than Nashville, according to a Forbes article released earlier this week.

Memphis tops the list with a combination of growing gang crime and a bad driving record, while Detroit, commonly considered a rough city after dark, sits at fourth on the list. Music City (listed as Nashville/Davidson County) lands in seventh on the list of most dangerous cities.

so as ALWAYS, it's personal...you don't care about the news...you just care about who's giving it to you.

I say sky is up and ground is down...and you would hem and haw about the liberal plot against upside down people...

typical.

Eh, I've lived in Memphis and in middle TN, close to Nashville. In a lot of ways Memphis is cooler and is it's own unique vibe, but I'd never consider moving back unless it was a job opportunity I couldn't turn down. The Nashville area is an easy choice if I ever consider moving back up there.

Tennessee has some cool cities...everyone seems to know Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville...but downtown Chattanooga is pretty cool, and Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is very nice...I also enjoy getting away to Reelfoot lake.

I like living in Memphis, and I really enjoy 38104/Central gardens, but this year crime is way up, even for Memphis...it's sad, and I hope it levels out soon.

I read an article where 60% of black memphis women, or girls, selected the wrong "daddy" on the birth certificate. Of course none
are married. After DNA testing 60% were wrong. lol.

Kaplony you do need to work on your people skills. Become a better listener. Read more and post less. Reflect before you post and read alternative viewpoints.

So go live there if you like it so much...

I've never understood the 'your city sucks' argument...live where you like...if you find some bumblef@&$ town to paradise...live there and be happy...if you like Detroit, cool, go live there and love every second.

To me, twang-town is overpriced, artificial, has WAY too much traffic, without the infrastructure to support it...it's also way too spread out (but so is Memphis)

It's just not for me.

I've been to Memphis twice now. ('08 & '09 Liberty Bowls) and it just struck me as dirty, run down, and very dangerous. I was nearly robbed a couple blocks off Beale St one night... if it weren't for a police officer slowing down to check on me, it would've happened. The drive from downtown to the Liberty Bowl reminds me of documentaries I've seen of Fallujah post-invasion.
