La Tech is known for hiring the sons, etc of prominent sports figures in order to relish the publicity. I have it from a confidential source that they are negotiating with Obama in order to hire his oldest daughter as Summits replacement.

Mulkey convinced Summitt hire was vetted

Never one to mince words, Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said Tuesday she felt sure Louisiana Tech athletic Tommy McClelland did his due diligence a couple of years ago when he anointed Tyler Summitt as coach of the Lady Techsters’ basketball program.

“I just know Tommy McClelland did a thorough job before he hired Tyler Summitt,” Mulkey said after speaking to about 100 attendees at City of Shreveport human resources training conference at the downtown Shreveport Holiday Inn. “And I have no doubt he will do a thorough job in this search to find his replacement.”

Summitt resigned abruptly last Thursday after admitting he had engaged “in a relationship that has negatively affected the people I love, respect and care about the most.” Although the person in question hasn’t been named, the fallout from that revelation has attracted nationwide media attention just as it did when the then-23-year-old coach was hired by Tech.

Marquette needs to be breathing a sigh of relief that Summitt and Pumroy got busted at Tech and not up there. It would be hard for me to believe that they weren't knocking boots up in Milwaukee.

Besides the sex, it sends a completely negative message to the rest of the team and their parents. The university is never gonna be cool with it and the media will jump all over it. Teammates reported being locked out of the gym at times over petty stuff, the alleged player getting away with murder, etc. Something like that just destroys a program which is a few of the players (at least a couple I think) are either transferring or just getting out of basketball in general.

I also agree with the earlier posts that made great points about him and her at Marquette. They probably did have a relationship there to some degree. However, this is no one's fault but his. He has to pay for it and he should. He's been around college athletics since he was a toddler. He knew the rules. When you are a leader, you have to have a higher standard. Especially if you're a HC who is responsible for other people and he was. He promised the parents that he would watch over those players and guide them. I wouldn't be surprised if someone didn't file a lawsuit against the school for wrongful treatment as a result of the affair. The school would be partially liable in that sense which is one reason why they had to fire him immediately.

Since I live in Nashville, they keep talking about this here on the radio a lot. It's a big deal here in Vol country.
