Aw man, he was almost the last one left. Like someone said, this one hurts. His music has been a staple in my life for 5 decades. Thanks for the memories Merle, maybe I'll see you as I walk through those swinging doors someday, keep the jukebox on and a bar stool open for me under that flashing neon sign. you old Okie you.

Well, at least we still have Kenny Chesney and Florida-Georgia Line.

Surely this is a smartass comment. those bands aren't even in the same ballpark as Merle regarding songwriting.

kris kristofferson and Willie Nelson are about the only 2 country guys alive who can still write a good country song.

RE: RIP Merle Haggard
I almost felt you touching me just now
I wish I knew which way to turn and go
I feel so good and then, then I feel so bad
I wonder what I ought to do

If I could only fly, if I could only fly
I'd bid this place goodbye to come and be with you
But I can hardly stand and I got no where to run
Another sinking sun and one more lonely night

The wind keeps blowing, somewhere, everyday
Tell me things get better, somewhere, up the way
Just dismal thinking on a dismal day
And sad songs for us to bare

If I could only fly
If we could only fly
If we could only fly
There'd be no more lonely nights

You know, sometimes, I write happy songs
Then some little thing goes wrong
I wish they all could make you smile

Coming home soon and I wanna stay
Maybe we can, somehow, get away
I wish you could come with me when I go again

If I could only fly, if I could only fly
I'd bid this place goodbye to come and be with you
But I can hardly stand and I got no where to run
Another sinking sun and one more lonely night

The Willie's Roadhouse channel on XM has been playing Haggard all day and the list of country music stars that have been calling in is amazing. They have shared some great stories about him. It has been a very enjoyable listen.

RE: RIP Merle Haggard
How iconic and ironic is it that Haggard was in San Quentin when Johnny Cash filmed that famous concert?
