Tough news for Southern Miss
Soph 3B Taylor Braley suffered a torn meniscus in the Saturday game vs Charlotte. Had surgery and is going to be out for the remainder of the season. Braley was hitting .323 and had a league leading 10 HR. Tough loss.

RE: Tough news for Southern Miss
Really just a shame for him. He was on such a roll and on pace for an amazing year.

We have the depth to fill his spot with a good bat....but defensively is the question. Hadley started at third (moving from DH) on Sunday but is a middle infielder and is just recovering from an injury of his own. I guess he would get the first shot. Gilbert is good defensively but struggles with the bat.

Yeah I believe Hadley is going to fill his spot. Will be interesting to see how Berry and Co structure the lineup now. I like Sandlin batting in the 2 spot. My guess:

Burdeaux
Sandlin
Lynch
Scott
Hadley
Robinson
Keating
Cooper
Dawson

Keating/Scott interchangeable in LF/DH

Yeah....but Berry moved Hadley to the 2-spot even with Sandlin killing the ball. He obviously likes Hadley there. I would guess you'll see the same lineup as Sunday, so Keating at the five spot, followed by Sandlin and Robinson.

Really, Cooper is the one that will be filling Braley's spot because it looks like the plan was to phase Cooper out with Hadley going to second to get Keating more at-bats

If both are in the lineup, you definitely go with Keating in left and Scott at DH--especially tonight at Trustmark with tons of ground to cover. I like Scott as a power hitter but he lacks speed and Sandlin and Burdeaux aren't fast enough to make up for him.

Edit: Nevermind. Good call.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your 3rd baseman. He was putting up great numbers prior to his injury. Good luck to the team the rest of the season in overcoming his absence.

Sorry your player got hurt, but the infield design is the same as the dozens of other turf infields throughout college baseball installed in the last few years.

It must've been a really bad tear. I tore a meniscus in 1994. Had surgery at Walter Reed and was playing basketball two weeks later.
