My wife and I will be leaving soon now that we have a child, though. My kid will not go to a B'ham city school and I don't want to shell out an assload for private school tuition. Off to the suburbs I go (I swore I'd never live in one of those places)!

Hell no. A cookie cutter house with a 0 lot line in a faceless suburb is bad enough, but I will save at least a small amount of my pride.

Just wait till you have more than 1 kid. The beauty of a minivan is that you can place them apart so they can't touch one another......in the end peace in the car trumps a sweet ride. Just wait!

Yeah, my wife swore up and down she would never get a minivan. About a year after our youngest was born she was driving a Dodge Caravan. LOL

Just let me live with the delusion for a little bit longer. I'm already preparing my, "I'll just tie one of you to the roof of the car" threat for when they won't leave each other alone.

I live in Montgomery County, Texas, the most republican county in the US. So no, the people here don't share my views. They are way too conservative for me on social issues, and not nearly conservative enough for me on fiscal issues.

Gerrymandering is a very real thing. Just look at a North Carolina district map.

Districts should have logical boundaries with relatively equal population. When you have weirdly shaped districts that seemingly snake themselves across the state with no logic, that's gerrymandering.

Yes..NC is one of the worst.

Population density for comparison. Hard to have logically drawn borders with equal population. It is what it is.

That's pretty interesting in terms of population density.

I just bought a place in Cashiers N.C. and am very surprised that it looks, according to this map, like it is more populated than it is.

Looks can be deceiving. Pull up the Google Maps aerial photo of the area and you'll see how developed it really is.

Oh, I've been. There aren't many people there other than some houses on some lakes and everybody there is from somewhere else.

That's some gorgeous country up that way. My Uncle used to own a cabin just up the road near Glenville.

It's my wife's spot. The lake is beautiful up there. It's just getting there that bothers me.

There is a point to get to our house where there is a sharp turn every 50 feet. It takes an hour to go just a few miles.
