Congratulations indeed! First you give them hope and let them back in and then you kill them. That's far more cruel! The thread should have been titled "The Revenge of the Big East".

This win really solidifies the Big East as a power conference. It also really helps Jay Wright's hall of fame credentials.

You can call the Big East mid-major. You can say that the conference can't recruit (or survive) without ESPN and the football schools. You can say that no one watches us on Fox. You can make fun of the league for being all Catholic/Private. You can even say that the league is a shell of what it used to be.

But be sure to call the BIG EAST CHAMPIONS!

Way to go NOVA!

You can rest assured it didn't come from Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame, WVU etc...etc. So happy for the BIG EAST and Congrats to the Villanova Wildcats...04-cheers

Yep, happy for Pitt's former conference members. All former Big East members know what a great program Villanova is and how tough the league is.

My team is in the ACC but I was rooting for Villanova. I think this conference loyalty stuff is a bunch of horseshit.

Since the BE divorce my love for the league is not as unambiguous as it used to be. And as my Temple fandom has grown my Nova hatred has increased by leaps and bounds.

But...this is still the Big East and the ACC and after fifteen years of attempting to destroy the Big East we have Swofford's alma mater and core ACC property losing on a last second shot. In this sense this is richly satisfying.

Serious question: did you feel that way before Pitt went to the ACC?

Like, I grew up as a Seton Hall fan in the 80s and 90s and conference loyalty was always a big part of being for a BE team, because it was an upstart league. And our natural enemies were always the bluebloods in the ACC, who thought their basketball supremacy was a natural right or something.

Congratulations Villanova! The Big East never died; it changed, evolved, contracted and then grew again. It will always be a power basketball conference. Very happy for the Wildcats!

Imagine the P5 FBS and some G5 schools split away from the NCAA? We would have two champs. UNC for the new league, and Villanova as the NCAA champs. This just shows no matter how big or small a school is that are not in the P5 conferences? They play with heart to win in no matter what sport they play in.
