OT: The Candidates, Where Are They Now?
Not sure why it came to mind but decided to look see how the candidates for UT President landed. I remember being impressed with the quality of candidates brought in by the search committee. Looks like that impression has held up.

Dr. Christopher Howard (my close fav) just became President at Robert Morris. Couldn't find information on salary but the last one made over half a mill.

Dr Howard: Robert Morris University

Dr. Michele Wheatley is back at Syracuse as Vice Chancellor and Provost. Again, couldn't find salary but the last one made nearly 600 grand.

Dr. Wheatley: Syracuse University

I think Toledo has a good hire. Forget about the others

RE: OT: The Candidates, Where Are They Now?
Certainly your prerogative. I never saw it a positive business move or even collegial "to forget" associates with whom I'd had productive and positive interaction. Their success quite honestly, does reflect on the University. But mostly, I wasn't thinking that deeply about it.

I just got curious what became of them and was pleasantly surprised to see how well they had settled. Maybe you don't see it or understand it or agree with it, but from MY experience this is GOOD for Toledo. I understand sometimes in this town, people rather not see that success from others. Think maybe they get jealous or feel success of others somehow diminishes their own performance. Not sure, that behaviour boggles my mind a bit. Probably why this town is so mired, they tend to play mash-a-mole with ideas that aren't put forth by the same-ol, Successful places I've been do nearly the opposite. They're looking specifically for fresh perspectives to augment or even recreate and look to share credit and grow together as a team but that's just my one observation and opinion. I'm sure there are a lot more reasons the town has gotten so mired we're hoping beyond hope our hire can bring us out of it. I more worry those "same-ol" won't listen to her ideas. Seeing where those other candidates went should give opposition to change and sacrifice here pause as to what they have in their midst and to follow. I'd hope but my cynicism rules even more so after your post. It so reflects that attitudes I see here compared to other places I've been fortunate to have been.

Just have forty years of the Blade doing the same thing and finding ways to rip the university and the city by feeding on the looming inferiority complex of the community makes me skeptical of these type of musings

The gentleman that went to Robert Morris was never coming to Toledo. He is conservative and the town would have destroyed him

Unfortunately, on both counts. That inferiority does seem inculcated here and I agree, it is encouraged by that particular (but not sole) organization.

I feel I can say, "look at the caliber of candidates that showed interest and how they're doing now" as well as "we made the right choice" without either statement reflecting negatively on the other. I agree with both, that unfortunately even though all seem to be great leaders with great ideas, local bigotries would not necessarily have allowed all of them to meet their potential, hence help the school meet its potential.

If your reasoning as to why Dr. Howard would not have been accepted is correct, it's a sad thing. Dr. Howard moved on from his last position because of the not necessarily conservative, but bigoted occurences there and the school he moved to, Robert Morris seems to be considered a good balance of liberal to conservative.

Is there anything to be read into, Syracuse and Robert Morris are both private?
