RE: New Defensive Coordinator
I heard we were going to buy a Magic 8-ball and let that call our plays and develop our defensive schemes for the upcoming season.

RE: New Defensive Coordinator
There's this... Posted today... No mention of a DC. Are we seriously gonna roll with Prunty? Tuberville gonna do it?

Quote:Cincinnati: Per sources, tight ends coach / special teams coordinator Ty Linder has moved to running backs coach / special teams coordinator, and graduate assistant Nick Grimes has been promoted to tight ends coach. Grimes is entering his third season on the staff, and his father JB Grimes joined the staff recently as offensive line coach. This fills the last opening on the UC staff. Keep track of open FBS assistant jobs here.

Jesus H. Christ.

Purity is not a DC. Now its not only just moving around the deck chairs on the Titanic with GAs who did a cruddy job already, but now we promoted another GA on the basis of possible nepotism?

What can go wrong? UC is now where GA's and guys come to get their first coaching or coordinator gigs.

This has got to be the weirdest offseason for Bearcats sports in a long time.

RE: New Defensive Coordinator
Bains' article mentions the interesting dynamics of the DC position with TT having "decades of experience coaching up that side of the ball."

People repeatedly overlook the fact that Tubby was only a position coach with the exception of one year as a DC and one year as a Co-DC and both of those seasons were two plus decades ago. My guess is he would not know his way around running a defense in 2016 if his life depended on it.

Prunty on the sideline calling plays with that other guy who was out of coaching before coming here up in the booth as Prunty's eyes could be a real treat.

RE: New Defensive Coordinator
total defense:

78th 2015
96th 2014
9th 2013

scoring defense:

91st 2015
68th 2014
14th 2013

Someone pinch me. I don't recall TT's first year having a pretty good dee. I guess it has been the past two seasons of flag football defense that has made me forget the first season. No matter, I don't foresee any progress toward that level but I'll take ANY improvement at this point. Heck, I'll even take not regressing.

Money is likely a factor, but I also have to wonder if it is hard to get someone to come in when the HC is potentially on the Hot Seat.

I think this is what's going on. Potential candidates know that Tub's seat isn't hot. It's on fire.

I do not see money as a factor. We were able to have better DC's and assistants under Dantonio, Kelly and even Lyle. Heck, Minter brought in some fantastic assistants. Light years ahead of this staff. Time to limit the excuses for this staff.

Is it really? I haven't necessarily seen anything that directly indicates this, although the talk of an extension sort of died out quietly......

I think Bohn's subtle comment that they were happy with his current contract spoke volumes. But, I may be reading too much into that.

Tubs is in the 4th year of a 5 year contract. You can't just let it ride into the 5th year if you want to recruit for 2017. They will need to decide at some point to either extend the contract or cut-bait.

My guess is they are waiting to see how this season plays out before making a decision. If UC starts out hot look for Tubs to get an extension. If it is shaky or bad they will make a change by the end of the season.

Of course Tubs is on the hot seat. Going into your final two years is a vote of zero confidence.
