Congrats to Jim Herman!
Plays big under pressure to win the Shell Houston open and is now exempt all year and gets to play in Masters, while bringing home big jack. Lots of talk of UC the last 15 minutes. Great job Jim!

The way the year has been going for Cincinnati I was thinking something crazy was going to happen like Stenson banking in his second shot on 18 off the clubhouse or something. But Jim did it! Awesome!

Gets to play in the Masters now. What an experience. Congratulations Jim!

RE: Congrats to Jim Herman!
I was channel surfing and saw this at the end. Several mentions of UC by the announcers just in the 5 minutes I watched.

I'm not a golfer and this is the most golf I've watched in years, so pretty neat that it was a UC grad.

Never met Jim but really cool to see a guy who graduated St X and UC a year before I did winning on the highest level. Still rocking the Bearcat head cover too.

Trump friend wins golf tournament, earns invite to Masters
By Cyra Master

Golfer Jim Herman won his first PGA Tour event Sunday, securing an invitation to the Masters tournament, Cincinnati.com reported.

The 38-year-old Cincinnati native has been backed financially by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and says the front-runner encouraged him to get on the pro golf circuit, according to the Daily Mail.

Herman met Trump while working as an assistant pro at Trump National in New Jersey, where the businessman gave him some advice.

Trump asked, “Why are you folding shirts and giving lessons? Why aren't you on the Tour? I've played with Tour players, you're good enough,” according to the Golf Channel.

“I don't know, maybe something like that gives you more confidence,” Herman said.

Now, he wears the Trump logo on his shirt and his bag.

Trump tweeted about the victory on Sunday evening.

Congratulations to @gohermie for winning the @ShellHouOpen. We are all proud of you @TNGCBedminster & all @TrumpGolf clubs! Great going!

During a rally Sunday night in West Allis, Wis., Trump opened by talking about the win, taking credit for discovering Herman and getting him started.

He said he played five holes with the golfer before telling him he should be on the Tour. "Here's some money, go on tour," Trump said. "His wife called me and thanked me. Everybody thanked me."

"I'm so proud of him. Isn't that a great story? And to think -- it shows the impact that you can have on people's lives. ... So, Jim, we're proud of you, Jim. Who would of thought that was going to happen? It's called talent."

Jessie Hellmann contributed. This post was updated at 8:23 p.m.

Very exciting for him personally and for Bearcat fans--what an accomplishment. Every time "Cincinnati Bearcats" is mentioned in a national broadcast it is building the brand. With the University's goal of competing on the big stage in academics and athletics it's great to see such success. That it happened in Texas--all the better.

I don't know Herman and I'm not putting this on him, but St. X is getting more of a bump from this @ Cincinnati.com than UC.

http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/g.../82650154/

Should we be surprised? Reading the article, UC is mentioned in passing with little reference to his accomplishments and leadership as a Bearcat. Bet the Columbus Dispatch wouldn't spin it this way if a local high school player from Cowtown went on to be captain of the OSU golf team and was headed to the Masters.

Gosh! Quit being so hard on the Enquirer. They are a highly professional and classy paper that treats the entire Cincinnati sports landscape with a fair and unbiased respect. (I couldn't even type this bit without smirking a bit)

Some fans on this board are just so gosh dang mean to them. They have feelings!!!! We should all feel lucky to have the Enquirer here!

I'm one of the lucky millions who don't subscribe. It was a destination for many writers (not all) who couldn't get a real journalism job. You obviously havn't been thru
the years when UC stories were few and far (except for the attendance).

Channel 5 says he's first off Thursday morning, following the ceremonial opening tee shots of Jack, Arnie, and Player. That has to be so cool for a guy who wasn't going to be at Augusta a few days ago.

I have a couple of good friends who work for the paper and I can't disagree. Much of the current crop of journalists came to the paper from community journal type jobs. I'd happily pay for good content. More often than not the Enquirer doesn't have it.

The cut for the Masters is the top 50 scores and ties or anyone within 10 shots of the lead.

Right now Herman is tied for 60th at +3. Looks like he is going to need at least par or better tomorrow.

Hope can do it.
