I was wondering if Lavin would eventually come up. The North Florida coach is a bit of a head scratcher.

One thing you can say about Lavin: he makes the postseason (although it helps when you're at UCLA and St John's).

Neither of them have any ties to the SEC. That should cheer everyone up.

He also benefits from the recruiting efforts of his predecessors. After those recruits have left the program and he has to play with his own recruits....he fails miserably and is fired. He would need a strong recruiter in an area he has zero knowledge of.

If I'm being honest I'd rather have Jason Terry or Chuck Person than either of these guys. Lavin is exactly the kind of coach I don't want. A guy who has coached at a major program with an abundance of resources and failed. Basically another Mike Davis.

I don't know anything about the UNF coach but to me that would really come off as a "meh" hire.

Nothing wrong with having sec ties. I think you misunderstood why folks were upset. As I recall it was event time a job comes open certain media members the usual list of suspects and even try to push their own friends. I hope you misunderstood.

This bantering.

He was hired at UNF by UAB's favorite former athletic department employee!

Lavin is the best name attached to this search. I think I'd still rather roll the dice with Ehsan. I think he'll throw a lot more effort and energy into it, he'll cost less, and all his recruiting connections are in place already. I have a bad feeling that Lavin will wind up doing ok, twenty wins or so, ride out his contract and collect his checks, and eventually get run off for never getting over the hump. I think he'd do pretty well next year with what's in place... but really, any solid hire should be able to do that.

I guess that explains how he got the interview.

I'd also like to address the warning issued by Attala here since I wasnt able to on the thread itself. It's completely stupid. Unless someone makes an insulting, threatening, or slanderous comment towards someone they should be able to say whatever the hell they want. We're all adults on here and hopefully everyone has thick enough skin not to get their feelings hurt over something said in a UAB athletics message board.

I'm going to speak freely and I appreciate that others are allowed to also, even if I don't agree with them. If you want to ban me forb that fine.

If Lavin is the one, then one of the upsides is maybe he will be able to call in a few IOU's and get a big time named team to come to the Bart

Okay. I did a little more research and my original seat-of-the-pants analysis was totally off base. It seems he does recruit really well and was fired from UCLA after his 1st and only losing season(after multiple consecutive 20-win seasons and NCAA appearances). At St Johns he lead them to one of the biggest turnarounds in Big East in his first year. His stint at St Johns included missing practically an entire season dealing with cancer and another season dealing with his grandfather's death. He and St Johns agreed to part ways. He can obviously coach, but the question is why he really left UCLA and St Johns and why he hasn't been mentioned for other big time jobs - burnout?; personality conflicts?. I suspect he would be a very short-time coach at UAB were he hired...

At a minimum, Ingram and Co had the intelligence to pursue candidates with HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE - THANK GOODNESS...and I would guess the list is much longer than Lavin and Driscoll...
