Eugene German- (Nice Article)
Hmmm...Maybe next year's leader could be a freshman.

Quote:Williams believes Northern Illinois got a steal. German said he is going to be good right away. He has that kind of swagger.

"I plan on starting my freshman year and then leading them to the big dance," he said.

His confidence has been chiseled by his insatiable passion for the sport.

While other kids have fun, German either works out, works on his game or thinks about working on his game.

On Easter Sunday, when Eugenia told him to take a break, Eugene had to find someone to let him into the 21st Century gym so he could put up jumpers. That was after he lifted weights.

German feels like he is getting ahead.

"When everyone goes to the movie, I get my hours in at the gym," he said.

It sure would be nice to have some natural scorers on the team for a change.

German can have a great career at NIU but I do not see him starting over Porter or Wilson. Starting line-up will be: Porter, Wilson, Armstead, Bradley, Maric. Back-ups: German/Orris, Highsmith, Pauga, Key, Zelis

It will never happen, but if Armstead plays like he did the last game he should come off the bench (assuming German is as good as the hype).

German will indeed lead NIU to the tourney at least once in his career. No doubt about it

Aaric Armstead will be a starter his senior year. Highsmith and Wilson began on the bench their freshman year and likely German will also. I don't believe German is any better than those two coming out of high school. Also, Laytwan Porter can be a great player.

You add a kid like German to this mix. Good lord this offense can be scary good eventually. German and highsmith will possibly put NIU over the top. Both players are crucial and also would mean armstead can be mainly a spot up shooter. I think the big thing we will notice next season is the huskies will have many more open shots given the better dribble penetration potential of next years team. No more Parking out at the perimeter for opposing defenses. Those days are ovah

Levi Bradley has already passed Key. Bradley is a star in the making. When he fouled out in Vegas that was the end of NIU. Bradley is a multidimensional mismatch.

I just hope he is as good a playmaker as he is a scorer.

In a thread from a few days ago you said German is more talented than all the freshman. I think your first instinct was right

That doesn't mean he will start his freshman year. Also, you are going to have to defend to start or get time on Monty's team. Coming out of high school I would rank NIU's recent recruits in this order: Highsmith, Wilson, German/Bradley, Porter, Key. Mainly because Highsmith and Wilson had college bodies coming in. German can be the best of them all but playing college defense usually takes a little time.

Laytwan needs to play under control. He has talent for sure..his passing game is subpar right now.

That's quite a change from your view two days ago

I said, German is more talented then all the freshman. I said can and will he play defense is the question? He will have to show that he can play team defense and take care of the ball. That means there is a good chance that he starts his career behind Porter. It sounds like he is a very hard worker so I am sure he will get plenty of minutes.

German two years 50 games: 32.8pts average, 53%fg, 36% 3pters, 174 assists, 180 turnovers, 128 steals. 5'11-6ft and 150 pounds. Tremendous talent but plenty of room for improvement.

RE: Eugene German- (Nice Article)
I am sure he is one of the top couple incoming freshman. Marshawn Wilson was one of the top three incoming freshman last year. Wilson also finished his freshman year in that position.
