The guard play next season is going to be great. What can really make them tough to beat is a big man, who can alter shots and dunk on people. I like Maric but NIU hasn't had an intimidator down low since TJ Lux. We will have the best guards in the MAC real soon.

The big thing about German which is exciting is that he can distribute the basketball too, he will instantly make everyone on the team better.

You crack me up.

He's definitely an scorer, but the guy had more turnovers than assists so you are wrong.

He averaged almost 3 assists per game if DeKalb's stats are right, check out his video footage, the dude can pass.

He averaged 3.4 assists per game and 3.6 turnovers per game. He has tremendous potential but even the best incoming freshman in the country have a lot to learn and get used to about the college game.

RE: Eugene German- (Nice Article)
I see the 2016-17 Huskies finishing somewhere between 3rd and 6th in the MAC. I also feel German will be much better come conference season than when he gets here. Wilson and Highsmith took awhile to adapt so I don't see why Eugene would be any different. Highschool videos are a little misleading because highschool kids don't defend or play anywhere as hard as college kids do. That doesn't mean that he isn't good, it just usually means there is a adjustment period for most freshman.

Looking forward to watching him but how does a prospect like this get out of Indiana with all the great programs they have over there?

Because he is 5'10-6 feet and weighs 150 pounds. Also, Monty seems to be able to get some top talent. Nader, Highsmith, Key, Wilson, Bradley and German. They all were listed as top 10 in their states by some publication.

When you have one player who dominates to the extent German did in HS, that player is naturally going to have more turnovers because he is handling the ball a lot, and the assists wont be astronomical because he is such a good scorer. If you watch that tape on him though, he passes the ball not even comparably to Wilson in HS, much much better and more willing passer. I have a slightly different view on NIU next season, I have their basement as #4 and their ceiling as #1

You are correct, MD. Any top flight scorer at any level of basketball will have an accelerated turnover rate due to the nature of being the focus of the offense.

I like what young Eugene has to say in his interview and I'm curious to see how his game translates to college - however let's not put him into the NBA just yet, okay?

He's awful small to be a scorer as he begins to face stiffer competition and that concerns me. I hope he will be able to adapt to playing against bigger and more athletic competition. We shall see.

He wasn't asked to be a playmaker in high school. It's definitely the area of his game he will need to be focus at the college level. At just 6 feet his height works against him. He is going to have to play the point, and defend the opponents point guard. We know he can score, but he will have to excel in the other areas of the game to play meaningful minutes.

He wasn't asked to be a playmaker but he excelled at that also

He played at a school with an enrollment of only 182, and they played in the smallest of Indiana's 4 basketball classes. I'm sure the kid can play but he is a MAC-level recruit, not higher.

Yeah it sounds like expectations need to be tempered with this kid.
