RE: Lucas Antunez Commits to UT
I get the impression that Coach K wants leadership, quickness and defense from his PG. We have plenty of scorers.

RE: Lucas Antunez Commits to UT
he has added 4 uptempo style players for next yr which seems to fit with the direction of a roster featuring Jonjon (who plays fast) Sanford (plays fast, came from a full court helper skelter HS program) Navigato (not a fast athlete but comfortable in an uptempo game and can run the court and handle the ball) Adway (fast and athletic but still getting acclimated to D1) Lauf (athletic and can play at any pace), plus the big guys garber, taylor and knapke none of whom strike me as gazelles but none are lumbering oafs either.
the recruits strengths
Gordon (can run jump play d and comes from a fast paced elite HS program)
Roberts (quick, fundamental, long range shooter, aggressive)
DD (quick, aggressive, makes plays in open court)
Antunez (makes plays in open court, sees court well with the ball in his hands, comes from uptempo JC program)
This seems to me like Coach K wants to maximize Jonjon next year as a playmaker by surrounding him with other aggressive uptempo guards and use his fairly deep group of interior players in more of a rotation system to have a lot of big fresh bodies on the court at all times.
I don't see anything that screams defensive improvement, especially since we lost our 2 best defensive rebounders and our best interior defender, but I think next year's team will be fun to watch and is designed to fit the 30 second shot clock style.

One more thought I had about bringing the 2 juco's. This to levels the classes, even if Coach K does not like to do it he almost had to. They would have had 0 Seniors that year so he would have had to be short handed to have any scholarships available.

Coaches these days don't talk much about balancing classes like they used to because they know there are going to be transfers.

RE: Lucas Antunez Commits to UT
there's always a transfer or two these days but you still wouldn't want to be in a position where you had no jrs in your program.
by graduating class
Now: 2017 (4), 2018 (2), 2019 (4), 2020 (3) avail 2021 (4) avail 2022 (2)
Without the JUCOs: 2017 (4) 2018 (0) 2019 (4) 2020 (5) - avail 2021 (4) no avail 2022
btw I believe the Rockets have at least 1 2021 class commit and he's a ... pg
