I like that. I don't know where the whole making a cupcake your hc game thing came from but it's stupid imo.

Lol. So we beat you 5 times in a row and you schedule us as homecoming. Ok... Sounds dumb to me, but I'm not running the USM athletic dept.

We play LSU then have a week break then host Marshall (I think that's right). I don't think this is intended as disrespect for Marshall as much as getting a quality opponent for Homecoming to attract more fans. Look at the other conference teams we host in the "Homecoming" area. No one will care about those.

To me I would think the Marshall game itself would draw a good crowd because of Marshall's history and name. I would've thought we would've picked one of the other games to keep attendance high throughout the season. Homecoming games are usually one of the better attended games so why not pick one of the other opponents to help get attendace up for that game??? Contradicting myself though, I do like the idea of picking a premier game as homecoming though to add to the excitement of the weekend festivities

Not going to be a better time to break the losing streak than at homecoming with a big crowd. Pretty smart I'd say...

IIRC, the AD mentioned three schools in the recent interview...Rice, Marshall and Charlotte (I think) as homecoming possibilities. He singled out Marshall, but said he wanted to wait. It sounded like he thought that game would get picked up by TV (moved for a national platform spot).

RE: USM's Homecoming opponent next fall....
I love this game for Homecoming the more I thought about it. Marshall is obviously an opponent that has owned USM recently. USM won 5 of the first 6 games in the series, but has lost the last five games. USM fans have tremendous respect for the Herd program. Losing five in row will do that.

Given the history of Coach Hop at Marshall, this game will garner even more attention. Even without being Homecoming, this game would be well attended and have a fired up USM crowd. Adding Homecoming just increases that crowd and fire in the crowd. I would much rather have a game like this for Homecoming than putting a beat down on a lesser opponent. I am looking forward to the game.

That's right, he did say that by April 1st the tv partners would pick their change the date games and homecoming would wait until that happened. He wanted homecoming on Saturday. The game will likely be a featured tv game on that Saturday.

You guys may very well have an advantage at home this year. I know us Marshall fans respect the USM program as much or more than you guys respect us. If Hopson can keep the offense flowing, I could see you guys getting one on us this year at your place.

I hope USM fans haven't put in your head that we don't respect Marshall.

I always thought of ECU as being our proper "sibling." Really, though, in terms of school resources, an impoverished state, and what we've managed to do despite those obstacles, Marshall is a far more apt comparison.

I just wish that you guys had been in C-USA in the 90's when both programs were at their peaks. How fun would it have been to see Pennington and Moss go up against our 1997 defense. Or your 1999 team against our loaded 99 defense. Basically any late 90's-early 00's Marshall offense against a late 90's-early 00's USM defense.

Oh no, nothing like that. We are programs that mirror each other, making waves in earlier times together. To me and many herd fans, the allure to joining CUSA was ECU and USM. I still refuse to put ECU above us, we all traded punches with each other while being in CUSA. MU never did fit the MAC mold when we were in it. Marshall had better facilities and competitive attitude than most of that conference at the time. We should have been in CUSA earlier than we were, and almost were in 2000 (I think that was the year).

A featured TV game would be nice, but based on history with the current partners that may be difficult. Last year, FS1 and CBSSN aired conference games on T/F...0 Sat. games. The Marshall game being hc means it will be a night game. So, there will be more competition from P5 conference games as well. If ESPN is involved, NEWS could be an option in that time slot...possibly CBSSN. If not, FOX sports or ASN will certainly pick it up. I'm really surprised it didn't get picked up and moved as it may be one of the marque games (on paper).

Right, according to the USM website it is scheduled for 6 pm.

History aside I meant lol I know you guys played longer, and sucks more to lose the series. Looks like you guys owned them most years.

My reason for posting that was that you are correct in your statement about ECU not being above either of us. I have lots of respect for ECU, just like I do Marshall. ECU actually won 4 of the last 5 USM/ECU series, so it was really a lopsided series before that. Even so, they were all hard fought games. Just like USM knows when it plays the Herd, get ready for some hard nosed football, ECU was the same way. I feel that LaTech/USM has fit the mold of the ECU,Marshall/USM games now.

Last season on roughly the same date (Oct 31 instead of 29) the feature evening game on FS1 was Texas at Iowa St and the CBSSN game was Tulane at Memphis.
