Shaq
I started a thread last week for Joe so that we could all find common ground and bring some healing and appreciate the fine young men that put our city and our school on the front of their chests.

I now feel it is warranted to do the same for Shaq.

He gave us 4 years. He was infectious with his smile. His sportsmanship his junior year and his improvement his senior year is to be admired.

Shaq came one hell of a long way from his freshman campaign to his first team all conference senior year.

Congrats young man on a great career. You will be remembered fondly!

Shaq will do well in the NBA, if he chooses that route. I think with the right coach and a little more push, he will do well. He has the size, strength, and is lengthy enough to take these guys to the rim and score. I think his defense will be fine. I saw flashes of him running the court on fast breaks as well. There is just something about him that is going to bea good player. Will the Grizzlies take a chance on him? I think they should give him a chance.

Shaq disappeared his entire junior year, I guess because the offense ran thru Austin Nichols and so he pouted the whole time. Many, many games he scored two or four points a game. This year he started to play better because he was "the man" but still was an idiot with all his technical foulls and antics. Not much of a leader or team player. He has some skills so good luck to him but also good riddance.

I place much of that immaturity on the head coach. No player in the country who respected their coach would have hung on the rim down a bucket.

That said, Shaq grew up a ton this year. He played with passion. He is top 10 all time at Memphis rebounding & top 50 all time scoring. To say "good riddance" is insane. His production will be sorely missed.

These threads are not going to heal, sorry. Just look at the Joe thread and look at where this one is headed.

Nothing healing until the coach is gone.

Lol

The sooner people get that "Josh Pastner is an inept coach" will be the number 1 topic on here until he's gone the better off they'll be. Deal with it or not. But it's not going away. Don't listen to the radio, tv or go on Twitter or Facebook either. I'm sorry but it is what it is. Maybe one day we will have a decent coach again and the blocking sled drill at spring practice will be bumped to the top.

Dumb question. I'm certainly not happy. Not sure that I'm sad though.

RE: Shaq
Shaq's lack of leadership showed with tripping the South Carolina player and celebrating the hanging on the rim T with a chest bump with Burrell. I read here in the past Shaq had a few distractions off the court - coeds and fraternity. Wish he had worked on his defense more and avoided early fouling and having to sit.

RE: Shaq
At that awesome football game last fall against the black rebel bear confederates, my 14 y o son spotted Shaq in the crowd. We went up to him and asked for a pic with him. He was so gracious-- a nice young man. We saw this quality repeatedly for four years while Shaq was a Tiger player.

Those two on court events that Tall Tiger mentioned were DEFINITELY bonehead mistakes.

My 2 cents-- Let's forgive shaq for those ten minutes of boneheadedness on the court. Let's thank him and maybe even honor him for those hundreds of moments that he played with passion, sportsmanship, skill, and a great smile.
