USM takes it 16-6. Extremely balanced effort out of a lineup missing Taylor Braley.

The 9-1-2-3-4 stretch of this offense can be an absolutely murderer's row. Today, you had Dawson go 2-for-2 and get on base all five times, so our leading hitter is now our 9-hole guy. Buurdeaux went 3-for-5 with 5 RBI. Hadley 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Lynch went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and reached base all five times. Braley sat out but Scott hit cleanup and with 2-for-4 with a homer.

Yeah, yeah. I'm aware that we've faced the worst pitching staffs in the league. But USM fans have gotten used to seeing us not hitting BAD pitching. So, it is refreshing to see us knock the hell out it this year.

I don't know if this team has the pitching to make a regional. We've damn sure got a better chance than previous years, especially with it appearing as though this conference is a bit shorter on dominant front-line rotation guys than most years. Even if we don't make a regional, it sure is a hell of a lot more fun doing it this way than how we have been the last few years.

Fun Stat of the Day: Nick Dawson's is hitting .517 with an OBP of .615 through nine games.

On the season Dawson is hitting .398 which as you said is our leading hitter AND he leads the team with 6 SB and is fourth in RBIs.

Plus leading OBP guy and doubles.

And what the stats don't show are the clutch hits. And really, I think he's always been pretty damn clutch since he's been here. For a guy who has hit as lightly as he has prior to this season, he's come up with some big hits throughout his career.

Great to see a .222 hitter who has spent two years as a starter just playing defense, laying down bunts, and trying to scratch out a hit when he can put together this kind of a senior season.

ODU lost to FAU 11-0. Swept by consecutive conference Owls. ODU is playing like the fifth place team they were predicted to be in the pre-season.

I have to ask the question....why is your playing field 100% turf?

that kinda blew me away watching this series....it's not that hard to maintain dirt....

Charlotte baseball has been forced to postpone and cancels dozens of games over the years due to snow/rain. The Niners lost a combination of eight games last season and 14 over the past two due to weather. I assume putting in a solid drainage system wasn't cost effective or it wouldn't have solved the problem since the baseball field in a low lying area near Toby Creek. #firehibbs

49er, I was listening to yesterday's game and the USM radio announcers commented on Dale Jarret's son being a player on your baseball team. They then mentioned the fact that there were several buildings that were devoted to motor sports. Can you elaborate on that please.

I would say that FAU is tops in the league based on play so far. Rice making their usual rush to be number one with my Eagles playing good also although we have played a pretty weak conference schedule so far. I'll say it will be FAU, Rice, and then my Eagles at the end of regular season. ODU will be lurking and giving teams headaches from now on.

Agreed. FAU, USM, and Rice clearly the top 3.. Beyond that, it is tough to tell.

Marshall is the team that has surprised me most! They are playing some good baseball.

I can dig the green sections being turf....but the dirt section changes how the game is played....

predictable bounces, sliding (in the saturday game, one of our runners slid head first and almost didn't make it since the resistance of dirt is more forgiving than turf) batters box, rounding bases.....and the cost for laying that isn't cheap, nor with the replacement when she wears out....

I also see ankle/knee injuries happening more as the turf/seams wear/become exposed....

do you know when this design was implemented? I'm also curious who did the install....

Some schools/coaches just prefer it. Disch-Falk at Texas is all-turf except for the mound. [Image: rbz-UT-Baseball-v-TXST-06.jpg] You know with the Longhorns, it can't be a cost issue.

The Hoosiers have recently gone to a completely turf infield (including the mound). http://businessofcollegesports.com/2013/...s-diamond/ [Image: 49782_0000-IM621677960f.jpg]

nothing like home field 'advantage'....'course, that didn't work out for charlotte this past weekend....other than that, I'm not sure why anyone would like it when having to travel to venues that are almost all dirt where brown....

makes no sense to me....
