RE: Scarbo: Anti-SEC Sentiment Has No Place in UAB Coaching Search
There are 14 programs in the SEC. There are 351 programs in Division 1 college basketball. The SEC makes up, therefore, 3.9 percent of college basketball programs and coaching positions and, conversely, 96.1 percent of the local media's knowledge of college basketball.

Can you name four college basketball assistant coaches NOT working for an SEC program without the Google, Kevin?

That's what I thought.

To add: I don't ever want UaB to be viewed as the SEC minor leagues.

DITTO

I like Eshan, but TJ (SEC) or Person(SEC) would be ok. Person would jump ship too quick imo. Hell No to Pearson (SEC), Brady (SEC) or Pelfrey (SEC)

RE: Scarbo: Anti-SEC Sentiment Has No Place in UAB Coaching Search
As Scarbo said, it may be "understandable", but questionable as a policy for the future. Dislike and distrust of the UA System BOT should not ever be extended to players and/or coaches who have never made an antiUAB statement. I don't ever recall hearing a charge that a coach "threw" a game because it was against a team he once attended or coached.

Pat Dye played for UGA with Fran Tarkington, coached at Bama and moved on to become an Auburn head coach and now cheerleader. BBHC Haase's Blazer teams played well against UNC in every game. Coaches are primarily loyal to the school they work for, to their own future in their chosen profession and the players they have recruited. We must rely upon AD Ingram to make the best BBHC hire he can from those who apply for the job.

If looking outside of cusa coaches... would make sense to interview coaches of any conference UAB is interested in being in. They may have helpful ties and relationships. wouldnt think uab is looking at sec

and thats not what Scarbo is talking about. hes talking about the group of fans that dont want anybody with strong SEC connections, even if the best candidate.

that attitude he speaks of is just plain stupid

It's a sign of a closed-minded, provincial attitude. UAB is a world-clas institution and needs to act like one in every aspect, not like Polk County High.

There's a whole wide world on the other side of the trailer park fence, Kev.

We lost by 31 and 18 in the two unc games not in Birmingham....

Not sure of the point you're trying to make but Scarbos point is still valid. Dismissing a candidate just because he has ties to an SEC school is completely ignorant.

Wouldn't be easier for Kevin to post his comments here as he reads Blazertalk rather than reading Blazertalk, then writing a column and then someone having to post a link to the column.

Thats not the point he's making. He's saying hire the best candidate for the job. That person may or may not be affiliated with an SEC school.
