So you are saying had it been ECU instead of Morehead, we'd had about the same crowd? A bit of a stretch don't you think?

Nope to first question. Probably would be a bit larger crowd with ECU in town. More Pirate fans. Couldn't be too much larger of course because then you hit the max capacity.

Actually, I recall telling my daughter inside Bridgeforth during the opener last year that I thought the stadium was more full than I expected. Never looked up the actual attendance until earlier today. Just hoping we get another good crowd for the opener this year. The team deserves to run out and see a full or near-full stadium. Great way to show the new HC and staff that the JMU Nation is behind them 100% regardless of the perception of opponent. Helps recruiting. Helps make JMU look better to everyone. I'll be there wearing purple as I know many of you will. Doesn't really matter to me whether it is Morehead State or ECU...as it didn't a year ago in the opener apparently. Hoping for the same this year.

Go Dukes!

Season home opener is always going to be a big crowd especially so if it is also the first game of the year. If it's the second game (first being an away game it would be a slight dip). All of this is purely speculation of course, but I think we'd be able to get JB to agree with the thinking. No matter what, that first game at BFS every season we are hungry to get back to the Shenandoah and spend the afternoon with old friends.

Yep. I look forward to Game 2 and being in Bridgeforth for the 2nd week in a row to root on the Dukes. We only get 6 Saturdays out of 50+ in a year...and, only 4 that kickoff at 3:30 or later. (not counting home playoff games of course, which I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to)

Who the fans feel is a "rival" is not necessarily the same as who the league has designated for your rivalry game.

As best I recall, CAA football pairs up teams they designate as rivals and it was done to allow certain teams to always play each other every year. I would find it quite believable we were paired with Elon for geography reasons, though I'd hardly view them as a real rival, and it kinda sucks if that's the pairing.

Would have made more sense to the fans (and stadium revenue) for it to be UD, W&M, or RU.

I think you stand to get a smaller attendance for Elon no matter when you play them, so may as well pair them with a weekend that is also likely to be a tough attendance weekend. It would be really bad for JMU gate/attendance if you paired one of our better conference matchups/rivals like Villanova/UD/Rich/W&M/NH on the weekend before Thanksgiving. Good planning by JMU in conjunction with CAA on this one.

Seriously? 03-banghead

Even for the admin/CAA apologists on here, this is a bit much. I don't think JB could keep a straight face and claim that having Elon as our CAA "rivalry game" was the result of good planning. I hope he didn't request this, and just got stuck with CAA leftovers. Homecoming and Parent's weekend will almost always sell out, its the other dates that need more premier opponents to sell tickets.

No one is claiming Elon as the rivalry game. Last game of the regular season doesn't automatically mean rivalry game. Lots of programs don't have rivalry games as their last game.

If ODU couldn't sell out the weekend before thanksgiving and Liberty couldn't sell out the weekend after thanksgiving, then there comes a point when you just have to stop and acknowledge that no one is going to go to a game anywhere near that holiday week for anything less than top level P5 games.

So yes, you should schedule your poor drawing opponent for that weekend when you don't have a rival. That's just smart.

Yup....Do I like playing Elon in that slot nope.....the only other option was when we played Towson there and that does not move the attendance needle there. JMU has essentially 2 rival games per season and they are not the last game of the season--so what. This is effect gives JMU a home rivalry game each season---that is a good thing. If ODU and Liberty could not sell out either side of Thanksgiving nothing is.....it is just matter of cutting your losses and making the best of it. I have NEVER nor WOULD I say ELON is a rivalry game for JMU. Richmond and W&M have played football for ALOT more years than JMU has had a program so yeah JMU sort of gets the short-end of that stick b/c Rich/W&M got that game at the end of the season period end of story not changing. When ODU was in the CAA it made sense to try an get that same type of deal between JMU-ODU but now JMU lost their dancing partner for the end of the season game.

Yep.

A bunch of whining posters on a message board are calling it a rivalry game. That's about it.

Savor every second. Hopefully, we have a good lead. Sure beats the hell out of working in the yard in mid-July...or, living in Norway.

No we're not. I've explained it in three or four times I've responded to you making that comment as well as others. The last game is reserved for your rival. Currently, all of our rivals have bigger rivals. We are stuck with Elon during the weekend of the season reserved for our rival. And that sucks...

Can you make your point without criticizing those that disagree with you? Or will you continue to complain about people complaining?

Acceptable response. I've all but given up on the yard and just pay someone to do it for me. I'm guessing I have a few years on you, so yes I'm entitled to this one vice.
