That is why we would need to weigh the penalty extra heavy after the first year.

We learned even a DII coach could do that. I think there are some retreads who would be very happy to be back at the level where they were successful. No idea if Felton would be one of those.

RE: Okay, I'll start...
For some reason, Felton doesn't appeal to me. He might be the next coach here and be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I can't explain it. He's just not my man at this point. Some of you are definitely in love with him. But I'm not. He did great at WKU, but would that translate to here and now? I don't know. I think I'd prefer Wes to him, but my choice is still someone we don't know, but who fits the profile we're looking for. I'd hope that Mark Downey would get another look. For some reason, his background is appealing to me as a coach. But, may I add, if Wes is the coach who Chasse believes could continue our recent success and keep us moving in that direction, then more power to him. But there's a downside to that. Not good politics if a local man is hired, and doesn't do well, and you have to fire him.
Makes it harder than someone not locally connected.

There's a lot in this that I agree with. I think the same thing about Derek. What if we hire him and he sucks at coaching on the college level? How do you fire someone like that without pissing off about 95% of the fan base - or more? I know some of the 85-86 guys and other players from the late 80s are pushing for Derek, Pete Myers and Joe Kleine. (I've seen comments from them on Facebook) If those were the finalists, honestly, I'd be pulling for Pete. I'm just glad Chasse has to make the decision and not me!

Pete was just in the news-

He would certainly be an interesting hire, but I don't see it happening.

Probably 50-1, assuming there are 50 candidates.

1) Wes Flanigan
2) Mark Adams
3) Dennis Felton (assistant at Tulsa)
4) Joe Pasternack (associate head coach Arizona)
5) Greg Heiar (assistant Wichita State)
6) Steve Henson (assistant U of Oklahoma)
7) Nelson Haggerty (head coach Midwestern State University (TX)
8) Josh Schertz (head coach Lincoln Memorial University (TN)
9) Travis Ford (ex. OSU coach)
10. Anthony Grant (ex. Alabama coach)
11) Tony Barbee (Kentucky assistant; former head coach UTEP/Auburn

I assume the first 2 names will be mentioned. Be interested to see if any of the others pop-up in the next few days.

Scratch Travis Ford. So that leaves 10 names. I doubt we can pay Anthony Grant enough to leave the OKC Thunder. Same with Barbee at UK. That leaves Dennis Felton as my top choice.

There are a lot more possibilities than this list.
