Beyond my own experience, a friend's son plays for a local high school team. The School signed a contract with Under Armor and UA gave them a stipend to spend on uniforms and shoes. By week two, 2/3rds of the guys were back wearing last year's shoes.

Wonder why Auburn, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Utah, SFA, Maryland, etc even bother with UA?

This will be a good deal for UAB.

In the case of Auburn, as I recall, Auburn used to use Russell when it was an east Alabama based company (Benjamin Russell HS named for its founder). When the company was sold to an out of state (out of nation?) conglomerate, Auburn went back on the market for a replacement company that was not Bama's NIKE. Apparently, Under Armor made the best offer.

Ever wonder whose influence led UAB to sign with NIKE years ago?

UA also used to be Russell Athletics.

Is there any proof of this? I'd have expected a press release from either UAB or Under Armour by now and the only mentions of it I've been able to find are blogs and forums.

Nike contract doesn't end until today I believe. I'd imagine a press release in the near future. As you'd expect things have been developing behind the scenes which led to the inevitable leak.
