There were some extremely ugly recruiting fights during Stansbury's time at Miss State. You can google "Mario Austin," "Gerald Wallace," "Walter Sharpe" and "Reginald Delk" for details. The Sharpe payoffs (to a "family friend") were so dirty that even bammer backed off recruiting him; it happened during Internet 1.0 so there's less out there but I think the Austin one was the dirtiest (Andy Kennedy of Ole Miss fame was our recruiter in that scuffle).

Well that's all UAB fans had to say, explains why all the hate out of the blue for Stans....UAB fans could have just said this from the beginning instead of all the hate before....I am sure no one at WKU was aware...

Stansbury turns down UAB--Multiple sources

Bottom of this article. He gained interested from many jobs, including UAB.

This isn't just our sports writer throwing stuff at a wall and seeing if it sticks. Our sports writers are notorious for reporting only FACTS and never have a WKU bias. Zach cited MULTIPLE sources that he was offered UAB job, not a single source, but MULTIPLE sources.

RE: Stansbury turns down UAB--Multiple sources
The "multiple" sources obviously didn't include the source who would be offering the job.

The timeline does not fit at all. UAB did not form a search committee until Monday. Also, based on past experiences, someone with the UABOT would probably have to OK a job offer or at least the salary offered. I don't rule out contact being made, but absolutely no way an offer was made.

This is just Stansbury or his agent trying to get more money out of WKU. Multiple sources could easily be Stansbury, his agent, and someone at WKU who as told this by the agent. It did not come from anyone at UAB.

Well, not being a jerk because I like the Hilltoppers, but anyone associated with southern basketball knows the Walter Sharpe story. It's not ancient history, being +/-2005-2009, widely recruited, very talented and troubled. Had some short NBA time also.

I can remember the exact place I was at when he got drafted in the first round.

Well he was never offered the UAB job, or interviewed. Sorry if that upsets you.

I don't know who I'm going to believe more:

-The UAB AD who said he wasn't offered. He obviously has some stake in this. Doesn't want to seem stupid if he got turned down.

-The sportswriter with ZERO WKU FANDOM who cited MULTIPLE PEOPLE, with zero stake in this.

I think any logical person would take the second option as most likely.

Now, I'm not saying UAB's AD called up Stans and offered him the job, but it's likely that he called him, wanted to set up an interview for the job, but Stans said no thank you.

If you really think our sportswriter is stupid enough to be duped by Stansbury's "agent" to get more money, then you're being pretty superficial. Our sports writers are very big on journalistic integrity. To the point where many of our fans don't like them.

Also, Stansbury's salary is the exact same as Harper's. I don't think this was a ploy for money as some of you people would like to think.

Instead of all this goofy banter...

What we need now is for UAB to hire the best coach possible, which I am sure they are trying to do. And get CUSA competive so we get 2 or 3 bids a year.

Think of how much money the ACC is going to make with all those teams in.

Newsflash: That is not a job offer. Contact was made.

Hilltopper fans are funny. I've seen two different posts where in the same post they say they believe their beat writer, but then go onto say that maybe an offer wasn't made, but contact was made.

Your stupid beatwriter reported he was offered.

And who knew that Bowling Green Kentucky was the last bastion of journalistic integrity. Maybe it is the last location in America of gullible readers who believe that journalism integrity still exists.

Good. Like anyone with half a lick of sense, your AD knew it was laughable to think of Mark Ingram taking swift decisive action before even getting salary approval, and didn't fall for it.

Stansbury never said he had an offer from UAB. The WKU newspaper reported that their sources said he had an offer. Could have come from anywhere.

I find it really hard to believe he was offered without an interview. Seems far fetched. More likely something "leaked" to validate/create excitement for the hire. Seems to have worked.
