That's a pretty fair point, albeit an overlooked one.

Also, I recall from earlier reallignment talk that PAC-12 requires unanimous approval of new members. So student protests at Berkley or Stanford could end up leading them to blackball a school for any political bologna they want.

Not anymore. After Scott became commissioner, it was changed to 3/4 majority, so there have to be 9 votes in favor.
Baylor would still be just as unlikely as BYU, for the same "academic freedom" reasons regarding faculty. TCU does not have the same issues.

I can't speak 4 Baylor but TCU Does NOT have nor
has ever had any type of discrimination policy against LGBT's
or against any race or nationality
TCU is affiliated w/ the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
which practice unity, not uniformity, social justice concerns,
& inclusion 4 all. All are welcomed & accepted as they are.
DOC Identity statement.
“We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
As part of the one body of Christ we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.”
Then they won't do it because they want to remain secular.

good stuff
I'd think Rice would have a shot before Baylor....
Rice is AAU and actually in a very large metro area....ya, their sports suck, but that wouldn't be the motivating factor to adding them
I agree on this. If a compromise has to be made where the Clintonistas in the Pac-12 have to choose between Baylor/TCU and Rice, Rice would win hands down. At least the argument would be Rice is an academic equal to Stanford, Cal, UCLA and USC and it's in a rich recruiting area. Baylor is to the Pac-12 what BYU is to them. Baylor is a better fit in the SEC and we all know A&M will block them after all the threats Baylor threw to them on their way out of the Big XII.

Bob Bowlsby also said the departure of K-State pres Kirk Schulz to Wash St shouldn't delay Big 12 decision-making process this summer.
With Schulz leaving as chair of Big 12 board of directors, he could be replaced by K-State interim pres or next pres in line: David Boren.
Big 12's Bob Bowlsby says early research from league data study shows football conf title game and 13th data point improves playoff chances.

Someone once said that the simplest explanation is most likely the cause. He's moving for the money:
"His [Schultz] salary last year was about $467,000. He declined a 2 percent raise last summer. A Washington State official confirmed as accurate a Seattle Times story citing Floyd’s 2014 pay as $725,000 in base salary plus deferred compensation worth about $150,000." (From the Topeka Capitol-Journal's website, today)

Academic freedom issues at Baylor? Can you elaborate on this?

Academic freedom, meaning whether faculty can research or write or say whatever they want without having to worry about being disciplined or fired for the content of their research or speech. Most universities have written policies protecting faculty in that regard.

I know what it is but how does Baylor restrict it like you claim?

The school doesn’t hire non-religious faculty.
