FIFY.

I'm seriously not trying to be an ass here, because I think it's a good hire. But your administration hasn't even blinked at past transgressions or even transgressions by coaches while serving at western. So, the point is whatever happened in the past they don't seem to care as long as they get the best possible hire. Nor do they seem to care if illegal/unethical things happen as long as there are no inquires from the NCAA. Ok. Fine, but at the end of the day (and you guys can hate on me all you want for calling it out) this is what I see. And if it was happening the same way at UAB or FIU I would say the same thing to them. So, fire away as if TIBL has some sort of vendetta against you guys, but I see what I see.

At any rate, Stansbury was never investigated as far as I know. His teams have never been put on probation, so he's a far better hire in that regard than previous hires in other sports. I like this hire. It think he is going to kill it. If you can get good players at non-power schools then you don't have to be as good at the x's and o's because you'll beat people on talent alone.

So, sincerely I say congrats. Great hire.

He was let go from Austin Peay years ago after an ncaa investigation.

I stand corrected. I read up on it. All I saw were accusations that he paid a player among other things. Anything ever come of it? Proven, etc.?

And it was a very, very long time ago.

If you have to reach back to the 1980's for some of these accusations...SMH.

To be fair they both learned under Richard williams. Well that was before Richard knocked up a member of the dance team.

Friend just texted me saying Stansbury might stay at A&M to wait on something "bigger" . Don't know what to think right now.

Greenwell and Bishop still act like it is Stansbury. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Either way, Todd will hire someone competent.

He instructed a recruit to lie to the NCAA and lied to the NCAA himself in addition to the improper benefits and contact. He was a young man then trying to get a career going, so maybe he did what he felt he needed to do to try and get ahead and has since changed. My experience with people is that you have an ethical core and its boundaries are rarely redefined. You are what you are.

One of the best people I know and now the Paster at a wonderful church was a drug using POS while younger. Smart people learn from they're mistakes, the ones that continue those way I agree with you. If people judged me for everything I did 10-20 years ago.....ooohhhh boy

You got that right, Rojo. He told me to book it that the job was DF's a week ago. Ole Petey, he's one in a million.

Next time just message me and I'll set the record straight lol.

Although to be fair to Petey. Up until Thursday morning I was hearing it was Felton's. That's who Ransdell wanted from what I heard. But Ransdell also trusts Todd thank God.

If one of you guys get a new coach(any sport) we wish you the best-then sit back-wait and see.

I don't get it.Does WKU not deserve the same courtesy till some "sin" has been committed ??

I'll give you some credit. I think it is a good hire. State fans became completely delusional and thought that they would be a basketball powerhouse without Stansbury. His predecessor may have gotten them to the Final Four in 1996 but there has been no evidence that MSU can be a consistently good team in basketball outside of Stansbury's tenure.

The nail in the coffin was the Renardo Sidney fiasco referenced above. Basically, Stansbury was desperate with an uneasy fanbase and let it ride on a talented kid with discipline issues (including eating). It blew up in his face in the video posted above in which he attacked a teammate in the stands (food related??). He responded by, if I'm not mistaken, booting the kid who Sidney attacked after allowing Sidney to serve something like a 10 game suspension (that he probably spent eating). Sidney was underwhelming...and fat. Renardo Sidney was fat is what I'm saying here. State fans were pissed. Stansbury was fired. That season really was an absolute trainwreck that you had a feeling was coming.

I would definitely say that his success rides on his recruiting...which was good because he was a damn good recruiter. No one will accuse him of being a superb tactical coach; though I never thought he was horrible. It could be a very good hire....but I'm curious what he can bring in at a non-SEC school.

Despite what you think, he was not "fired"....He officially retired to spend time with some family and reset....He was out of coaching 2 years, then landed at Texas A&M for two years....

A Head Coach cannot control every player's actions, look at Coach K with Grayson Allen haha....Coach K is considered the greatest coach of all time, you are still going to have you bad apples as far as players goes...Stansbury took a gamble with a high rated recruit probably coddled him for awhile and it blew up in his face....He needed a break which I am guessing a lot of drama and knew it was a good time to leave Miss. St....Probably happens countless other times in every profession known to man, that my friend cannot place all the blame on the Head Coach...

What we desperately needed was a guy who can recruit, Stans can recruit...We lost so many Kentucky guys we could not keep in state due to Harper not being able to seal the deal...I have a feeling, Rick's main job and first priority is going to be getting some of the top talent to stay in state just like our football team getting guys from Louisville to stay in state and play for us....Kentucky has some legit high school basketball players and I for one looking forward to us grabbing a few of them instead of being shut out under Harper..

Okay, you're right...technically he wasn't fired. Technically then, head coaches are almost never fired. They "resign." We never fired Jeff Bower then, so I wish people would shut up about it because he "resigned."

No. Stansbury was forced out. Sorry. And if you didn't get defensive about my post, you would have seen that I (and most anyone outside of Starkville) thought they were absolute idiots for pushing him out. Nonetheless, I can assure you that he did not "take time off to spend with his family."

I don't know where you're going with the Grayson Allen thing. There's a fine line between a player tripping some guys in games/being a smarmy prick (which most Duke players have always been seen as) and one of your players attacking another one of your players on national TV.....and then kicking the guy who was attacked off the team.

Really though, I was defending Stansbury there. The boosters had been coming down on him for years and he had to gamble on something or someone to keep his job. If not for the delusional "cigar club" referenced earlier in the thread, I have no doubt that Stansbury kicks Sidney to the curb pretty quickly.
