How does UCF get away with having more men's teams than women's teams? Especially when football has so many men players. Wouldn't this be a title IX violation?

This site and related information from the Department of Education (Equity in Athletics) may somewhat help you better understand how some universities choose to field teams and support athletics:

The numbers are reported to the Department of Education by each university, so when the inevitable "Their numbers are wrong" discussion raises it's head from the usual suspects, that needs to be brought up with the university officials, not anyone here or at that agency. :)

Additionally, I'll just warn folks ahead the the enrollment numbers are different that what you would expect because the universities only report full-time undergrad students, which is significantly less than some of the numbers that have been published as enrollment at some universities.

I use it at times when the USAToday college athletic department database doesn't get to the level of detail that's needed. The easiest way to find an institution is to enter "institution city" or simply choose AAC and get a listing of all members and choose from that list. This site lists # players in each sport or general category (total track for example), total men/women student participants and and coaches by men/women. It also breaks all of that down by $ spent and to a lesser extent $ income.

The combo of the numbers of coaches/athletes on that site and the easier to read/summarize USAToday database give a pretty good view of the athletic departments of universities.

I was surprised to see UCF at the bottom, especially with such a massive student body.

AAC football only schools:
Navy 32 (18 men's, 11women's, 3 combined)

UCF is at the bottom because they are paying off the cost of a football stadium and arena at the same time.

That's not meant to be negative...at least they invested in building both. Not everyone in the conference can say that.

I think UCF is still near the top in total AAC titles across all sports though. Don't know for sure since the AAC website doesn't include 2015-2016 seasons in their all time championship standings.

Do you know why you guys are allowed to have a significant number of men's sports over women's without it being called out?

US Department of Education Equity in Athletics shows that UCF registered 226 male student athletes and 237 female student athletes.
