not really. NC isn't the first case where we have seen higher minimum wage or anti-discrimination laws enacted and yet the "compatibility with state laws" BS that 200y is bringing up wasn't an issue. this whole scenario sounds identical to that situation in (I believe Texas) where a town banned fracking and the state responded by stating towns can't ban fracking. it seems like republicans are trying to pull a fast one here trying to come up with a BS rationale for this.

Like the state constitution? Have you read the law that was just signed? It's a reaffirmation of existing state law based on the constitution. It also reaffirms non-discriminatory laws enacted by the state. I have said nothing that isn't factual and easily verifiable.

Again you are BSing. What the media is saying and the fact that the NBA already came out against NC on this is pretty telling that there is more to this than the picture you are trying to paint...which happens all the time with self proclaimed internet forum experts.

Have you read the city ordinance and the bill? I've never claimed to be any sort of expert, but as a resident of NC I guarantee you that I have listened to more commentary from state legislators and lawyers who have reviewed both the ordinance and the bill. This is a cut and dry issue, and in no place in the new law does it allow for discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, or even 'sexual identity'. Nobody can be fired for being gay, nobody can be denied service for being transgender. Who gives a **** what the NBA thinks? When did the NBA become more informed and better suited to understand a city ordinance and state law than the legislators and lawyers who deal with the NC state Constitution, legislation, and city ordinances as part of their duties?

You say I'm spouting 'BS'. Do you have any proof of that?

No offense but your word doesn't mean that much to me. this is from fox news:

Republican Gov. Patrick McCrory approved a bill earlier in the day barring local laws that would extend anti-discrimination protection to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents.

The move came after the state’s Republican-controlled General Assembly sharply criticized a new Charlotte ordinance that would strengthen such protections, including the ability for transgender people to use restrooms matching their gender identity.

The city ordinance, championed by Democratic Mayor Jennifer Roberts, was to take effect on April 1.

Roberts said legislators who supported the new state law were “on the wrong side of progress.”

McCrory said the Charlotte ordinance would have violated the “basic expectation of privacy in the most intimate of settings,” calling it “government overreach and intrusion.”

every time this s*** happens there are always people like you saying it's X when the media is saying it's Y because they are low IQ and bought into the BS. Either Fox News and all these other organizations are wrong or you are right.

if you were me who would you believe?

There is no mention of Japanese people in executive order 9066. It baffles me that this s*** is pulled time and time again and people still buy it.

It isn't hard. Either you have read both and understand what you are talking about, or you have not read either and merely parroting what you have read in the media. The state of NC already provides protections for LGBT transgenders and this new law didn't undo any of those protections.

Correct. All this law did was to say that the city of Charlotte cant pass any law that allows some pedophile to walk into a girls bathroom, whip his junk out in front of them, and they have to be ok with it because the asshat thinks he sees a ******.

Yes it is. you refuse to acknowledge that it is a lot more complicated than a random message forum poster to read the text and known exactly what the outcomes are. case and point the 9066 which is a critical point and you ignored it. you ignore any point that disagrees with your argument.

fox news and the NBA wouldn't be doing this if your point was correct. your brain power isn't close to their brain power and clearly there is more to the story. you are too partisan to acknowledge this.

You guys don't even remember the Indiana version of this law. idiotic internet commenters all over the internet were doing exactly what you are doing now saying "read the text...read the text...it doesn't say this in there" except that when combined with a lack of protected class status for LGBT it says exactly that. only a fool would do what you are doing right now.

No reason for semantics in this case as everyone knows that order was specifically designed to intern Japanese Americans in camps during WW2. Lesser known is the order also applied to a smaller number of German Americans and Italian Americans. Sure the order technically just set aside land for this purpose, but anyone with a brain can tell what the land was to be used for.

john clearly has no use in the actual, you know, law, that was just signed. Agendas trump truth and reality.

I don't understand his resistance to answering the question. I would gladly debate the issue with him if he would acknowledge if he has read the ordinance and the law. Instead of simply answering he has called me partisan, questioned my IQ (which I'm quite certain is higher than his unless he has membership in Mensa International), and he has presented zero first hand knowledge of the ordinance or the bill. But I'm the one that won't budge.

Have you read the city ordinance or the law that was just passed?

and there it is. proof that you refuse to budge on anything.

do you have any explanation as to why foxnews and the nba are coming out in the way that they did?

Actaully this is proof you don't know what you're talking about.

The minimum wage for example was to prevent cities form competing with one another on an uneven playing field. There is no state law preventing businesses from paying more than the minimum wage, but a city cannot do as Seattle did and unilaterally raise the minimum wage.

Likewise, the state decency laws and those governing use and access to public facilities such as restrooms are part of state law, meaning they are the same in every municipality in the state. Each municipality can enact their own ordinances so long as they do not supersede or contradict state law.

It's a very basic concept that was clearly explained to Charlotte before their ordinance was passed.

Thanks for the reply, makes sense.

North Carolina's pro-woman law or
North Carolina's protect privacy law or
North Carolina's bring back common sense law.

That title is 10x more legit than any of those politicized terms.
Read the ordinance and bill, doofus. Otherwise, stfu.
