That is quite a spread to define the millennials. When I was working on line marketing there was a more defined line of boomers, GenX and millennial and the search habits of each.

We have a bunch of them we keep locked up on the 4th floor working on special projects in their shorts and flip flops.

Funny video. Sad part is, many of you old folks actually buy into all that stuff.

look at it this way: if you are a hard working millennial with a head on his/her shoulder the world is your oyster - especially as boomers retire (FYI, I am not a boomer).

It's actually spot on.

Let's be honest there are some from this generation that are very good employees but they are far and few between. The ones that do work expect to be CEO within 3 years of graduating college.

Yep. I buy into it from experience, which is why it was funny. Shooting the messenger with 'old' and 'sad' doesn't work anymore.

Y'all just sound so bitter. I've seen people my age act like the folks in the video, but I've also seen people your age do some of the same stuff. Are you telling me that you honestly believe the majority of people between the age of 12 and 34 are/will be such poor employees?

Also, what's your explanation for how/why millennials turned out like this? You folks are the people that raised us, mentored us, and taught us.

RE: Millenialls in the workplace
The further we get from the not so good old days of the Great Depression, the more entitled each passing generation will be. That is what made the WW2 generation so great. They were raised in a terrible economy and they saved the world (by paying an enormous generational price) in a matter of about 15 years. They did it without complaining. As the reality of those times becomes more and more distant of a memory, people forget how good they have it and how exceedingly more difficult others had it not too long ago. Life does indeed suck and it is not fair. The problem is we went through a 50-60 year period of time where, if you were a hard worker (and white), you were almost guaranteed a comfortable life. That has not been the norm for civilized humans in our 6,000 or so years.

This, by the way, is the opinion of a millennial.

And you didn't listen. This post is the perfect example of why millennials are terrible employees. You don't take responsibility for anything. You suck at work? Blame your parents.

You all thought you knew everything there is to know and there is no possible way an old guy can teach me anything. You got trophies for not winning and it boosted your "self confidence" to astronomical levels so you feel like you should be praised for doing subpar work because you "deserve" to be rewarded regardless. You grew up very comfortable for the most part. Also, your communication skills are atrocious.

Obviously when I put the word "you" or "your" I'm speaking of those in the millennial generation and not you specifically.

I'm a millennial operations manager and I constantly deal with this problem. It is VERY difficult to find someone in the 18-30 year old range who has good communication skills and/or a proper work ethic. To find one with both attributes is almost like finding a unicorn.

It is only going to get worse as parenting seems to be a lost art and you know longer have to physically interact with someone to be social.

I guess I just haven't associated with many people that behave like the people you're talking about. The few that I've worked with that did behave in such a way were usually fired pretty quickly.

I would still like to know your opinion on how the majority of a generation turned out in such a way. Sure, there is absolutely room for personal responsibility. But, can you not agree that the people that raised these millennials are also culpable? Some guy in the comments section of that video was complaining about millennials. When someone pointed out that people his age were the parents of this terrible generation, he tried to defend himself and his generation by saying that it's hard to control what your children take in when they have 8 hours of screen time a day. Well, take the dang screens away! Can't tell you how much it annoys me when I see parents out in public just handing their kids ipads and iphones in order to keep them quiet and still.

I guess my issue is that it seems like most non-millennials seem to believe that 99% of millennials are terrible employees and are lazy, disrespectful and can't communicate. At the same time, they seem to believe that nobody from their generation is like that.

Speaking as a GenX'er, I disagree. This is ALL we heard - that our generation was full of slackers, we were lazy, angry, cynical, etc.

I'll give you cynical...we grew up watching Presidents resign amid scandal, seeing our government lie (and not be good enough at it to keep from getting caught in it), and for the most part, grew up sitting in front of a TV, getting inundated with targeted advertising. We grew up worrying about nuclear war with the Russians, AIDS, and hijackers. How could we NOT be a little cynical in our viewpoints?

But yet, this so-called "slacker" mentality wound up developing all the new technology that we use today. It wasn't the conventional way that our parents worked - 9 to 5, Monday through Friday (although some of us still do that). We didn't get our gold watches for staying at a company 30 years like our parents do.

In contrast, millennials seem to want things handed to them in a nice package to start off with. I haven't really noticed a problem with work ethic, necessarily. They may work hard once they're given it, but they can't understand that you might have to dig in & pay some dues to start off.

The overall experience I've had with millennials is that they deem most entry-level jobs to be "beneath them."

So, now it's your opportunity to say the same stuff about the next generation? I guess the bottom line is that every generation looks at the next generation coming up with a "kids these days...." type attitude.

I do find it interesting that you provide excuses for and even benefits of Gen X's supposed behavior but don't afford the same to Millennials.
