Big Jon Duplantier with an absolute gem: 9.0 IP, 3 singles, 1 unearned run, 1 BB, 11 Ks. He retired 20 of the final 21 batters faced, with the last 6 outs coming by strikeout.
Speaking of dominating Friday night guys at Rice, what is Ryan Berry up to now?
Kid had such nasty stuff. Weird thing is, USM always seemed to have his number for some reason.
I wouldn't say you had his number. If I recall correctly, Bowden beat him a couple times 1-0 and 2-1. Berry is in the Pittsburgh organization, and I believe he'll be in triple A this year.
In 2007, Berry was knocked out early.
2008 was the 1-0 showdown with Bowden. If I remember correctly, the only run was a solo shot on the first at-bat of the game.
2009: Hit hard but blowout win for Rice.
Regardless, possibly the best pitcher in conference history in terms of career.
Berry was really consistent but in terms of "stuff," Degerman and St. Clair were the ones I really remember.

Four home runs for USM today.
If I'm not mistaken, USM may now have the #1, #2, and #3 home run hitters in the conference with Braley, Burdeaux, and Lynch, respectively.
Huge week for Braley: 8-for-15, 3 home runs, 8 RBI.
Gotta feel for UTSA and their pitching situation. I assume there were some injuries?

He also came into the 9th inning of the championship and brought us down easily. :(

I was just about to bring that up. After that, I thought for sure we'd be left out of the NCAAs but we barely got in and then of course made the run to Omaha.
I'd say it worked out in the end for us.

What about Kubitza (Friday starter for all 3 years) and Lemond? Otto could very well break all of St.Clair's records by the time he's done.

To all Rice baseball fans ... Congratulations on the win today against ODU and for the series sweep. Good luck in the weeks ahead, or at least until our teams meet again.

Thanks, and best of luck to you guys, especially against the rest of the conference. We pitched VERY well this weekend, especially against your 3 best hitters (top of the order), and you guys made a few costly errors which opened the flood gates in two of the three games. IMO, your coach is hurting your efforts by limiting your starting pitchers to just 5 innings, regardless to how dominant they have been. Your bullpen may be very deep, but it's average, at best, and Rice took full advantage of that this weekend.

Of course, you can throw those guys in there. Ojala and his nasty curveball. Jordan Stephens.
All ridiculously good, no doubt. But as a non-Rice fan, I just didn't get to see them pitch as much as guys like Degerman, Berry, Savery, and St. Clair, who were on TV quite a bit thanks to deep postseason runs. Plus you have to account for what those guys did pre-BBCOR.
The amount of good pitching in Texas....man. Aside from Rice, Houston had countless guys in their heyday like Sullivan, Lincoln, and another guy whose name I can't remember who was a two-way player in the 90's and early 00's. Then, Lance Broadway for TCU had the most dominant season the league has ever seen from a pitcher.
