Kalamazoo College
When most of us think about Kalamazoo College we don't think of an athletic powerhouse, with the exception of tennis, which is nationally ranked every year. No, when we think about Kalamazoo, we think of pointy little academic eggheads, not an athletic powerhouse cheating to get to the top. So it is with great irony that NCAA has put Kalamazoo on probation and banned them for two years from all postseason play

When I find personally disturbing is that during the recruiting process they did not let my daughter know that they were under NCAAA investigation and now she's stuck there due to their lack of ethics and honesty. Shameful.

It appears these infractions are fairly common in Division III athletics. Which begs the question... is the NCAA also partly to blame for this?

I'm not going to rush to judgement quite yet.

A few years back SI did a feature on a prominent Duke player who came to Duke after his mom was given a high paying job by a prominent Duke alum. Turned out she was totally unqualified for the job and never actually worked at the firm she was supposedly employed at.

This story was talked about on the sports talk shows and on ESPN. The NCAA's response? Nothing.

Too busy scrutinizing Ball State and K College I suppose.

Kalamazoo College receives NCAA violations and we get 4 articles from MLive (nice reporting by Dacey BTW).

I don't think we got that many articles during the entire course of the '15-'16 WMU basketball season.

Talked with someone "close" to the situation last night. Sounds like the 3 incidents in question are being handled and if the programs can get things squared away and the students repay the difference that was overpaid to them, that each sport will be reinstated to post season play.
Sounds to me like the baseball coach might be in hot water for making promises and having an inside deal with someone in financial aid. And then one of his recruits asked the wrong financial aid person about what had been promised and the internal investigation was launched.

At a D-3 school like K. They don't have athletic scholarships, but everything is based on academic merits and extra curriculars. What my friend told me is that they encouraged all of their recruits to make sure they put every extra curricular thing that they had ever done on their application to ensure that they were considered. They didn't ask for special treatment or weighted aid, but part of getting into K is based on those types of things.

That would be great, right now I'm feeling betrayed, mislead and angry. My daughter had a handful of offers and none of them are on NCAA probation.

My guess is that whatever coach was recruiting your daughter isn't one that has one of these incidents in question.
