I think the mick side has felt the football program has gotten the investment while the basketball program hasn't and they've done a good job pushing this view among people close to the program who really like mick. I get where mick is coming from but I am sure the athletic department has reasons for how things have gone too. Not ready to throw Bohn under the bus

Collateral damage of realignment, resources being used to increase invite chances. I get why Mick would feel slighted, I really do, but the reality of realignment is that football drives the bus.

5/3 is getting renovated correct? He makes 2.2 M. He can't feel slighted about realignment as that is not a personal matter.

Am I wrong or is there a renovation of 5/3rd Arena planned? Again, if that is stalled/uncertain and just not public yet then I totally understand Mick being pissed.

I think Mick is smart enough to understand that football HAD to be upgraded for any shot at a P5 invite which would benefit him greatly were it to occur.

The thing I have seen floated around on social media from the pro-Mick crowd has to do with charter flight issues, failure to upgrade locker room when Mick raised some funds to complete it and recruiting budget.

My guess is their point of view is simple: a strong football program has the potential of generating a ton of money, which can eventually be used to increase funding for other sports, most notably basketball.

That philosophy would be fine if Tommy Tuberville wasn't the head coach of Cincinnati Football.

It's been floating around for the past two years. The Mick fans have always felt like Bohn has some personal vendetta against their guy. As I posted yesterday, as involved as Dr. Ono is in the athletic program I highly doubt Bohn has been so openly hostile/neglectful against Cronin without it catching leadership's eye (Ono or the BOT).

My own personal experience with this is when a middle manager has it out for an employee it usually coming from directions upstream.

Just my personal observations (not based on any inside info), it seems like Cronin and Bohn aren't a long term marriage. Neither seems overly impressed with the other. I think there are a lot of people who believe the coach is 100x more important than an AD so if the AD is an obstacle to keeping a FB or BB coach, he needs to go.

Mick is not Bohn's hire so there is no loyalty there likely on either part.

It may have been a bad marriage from the get go and with the emphasis on football and Mick's less than stellar tourney and conference success, Mick hasn't garnered support from his boss.

Bohn likely believes Mick is replaceable and probably has someone in mind already.

This is right--Bohn may only be delivering the message from above. Poor Mick. According to some, the following (in no particular order) are ALL out to get him:

Bohn, Ono, NCAA officials and referees every game, AAC conference office, Huggins sycophants, TV commentators who unanimously pick against UC on Selection Sunday (wisely).

Enough. Many are tired of the negativity. And if this is about leveraging UC for yet another raise and extension, there should be a loud chorus of opposition. Thanks to Mick for what you have accomplished. Pack lots of sunscreen and head to the desert if you really believe the Mountain West Conference is the springboard to success.

As I indicated above, I just don't buy that Bohn came in here and just decided that he was going to ostracize our basketball coach. Dr. Ono has a history with Mick and is intimately involved in athletics so I just don't believe Mick had these concerns and Bohn was giving him the middle finger on his own. Just sayin

RE: Cincinnati’s Cronin in Las Vegas to check out UNLV hoops job
From that article:

Quote:One source said that the Board of Regents, which must ultimately approve the contract, has not yet seen any potential deal. With Cronin in town that could change very soon, and more than a week ago UNLV officials asked to have March 30 cleared for a special session that they hoped would approve the 12th coach in UNLV history.

I really hope this is not going on for another week.

And major donors who feel the program isn't progressing will always have the ear of Bohn or Ono. Some will fund the 5th/3rd rebuild and they have expectations for UC basketball.

news flash Mick: fb drives the bus, it should get first attention
40k seats generates lot more money than 13k seats. Its simple math.

TV is the same way. By in large ratings are higher for football.

I love hoops but I also understand its place in the pecking order.

No one's arguing the major investment in FB wasn't necessary. Its hard to believe however that they couldn't have thrown basketball a few bones along the way to make them feel appreciated.

I have to admit I've got a much deeper appreciation for how good basketball is doing despite zero administrative support after reading Chad's tweets.

A few bones isnt going to help. The thing we need is a major rennovation...hence the waiting game.

IDK, I'd consider 2.2mill a whole lot more than a "few bones"...
