RE: Johnny Dawkins to UCF
Interesting. I don't know if he will be a great fit there.

Stanford seems to be a tough place to build on. You can win there, but minus Montgomery, it's been tough for people that have had some success, but not enough (Trent Johnson, Dawkins).

UCF AD Danny White's Dad, Kevin White is the AD at Duke...and obviously used his connection to get feedback from Coach K who knows Dawkins best...as Dawkins, who grew up in DC, was Coach K's first great player at Duke...then after his NBA career, spent 11 years on Coach K's bench (including final 10 as Assoc Head Coach)...as almost all of Dawkins playing/coaching contacts were East Coast based.

Obviously Dawkins won't have to deal with Stanford's strict admissions policy which severely restricted the talent pool that Dawkins could dip into...and being back on the East Coast...that might help Dawkins at UCF as well.

No hire is ever guaranteed...but only time will tell...because even if Dawkins can bring UCF into the middle of the AAC pack...that would still be a major win for UCF Hoops program.

Some time in the future we'll make a "meh" hire and be excited about it, too.

Funny how the Coach K tree doesn't do as well when you don't get the 5 star top 10 players

UCF's Head Coaching Salary budget (which was just almost doubled from $600,000 per year to now $1.1 Million for Johnny Dawkins) couldn't afford Pastner during the 6 month off-season, let alone during the actual basketball season.

‏@GoodmanESPN Michigan’s Aubrey Dawkins will transfer — and play for his dad, Johnny, at Central Florida.

Aubrey Dawkins wanted to play for his Dad at Stanford, but the Univ wouldn't allow him (and zillions of others) to enroll...so he ended up at Michigan.

He was a solid player off the bench (some very good stats from downtown) so he could shine at UCF, especially after sitting out a year.

His 2 year stats:

Started 13 games and averaged 20.7 mins per game as a Freshmen (shot 47.8% FG, 43.8% 3 pt, 7.0 pts per game)

Started 9 games and averaged 15.7 mins per game as a Soph, even though his shooting percentage improved (50% FG, 44% 3 pt, 6.5 pts per game).

Don't think he will be on scholarship as most Head Coaches receive free tuition for their children.

Always nice to get a kid that has staff connections. Seems like a player who could help.
