“It’s great to prepare firemen for their second jobs as plumbers,” an insider quipped. “The FDNY might as well call this the ‘Side Job Preparation Guide.’ ”

In contrast, the NYPD’s sample entry test questions all involve crime-fighting and patrol-related scenarios.

In January 2010, Brooklyn federal Judge Nicholas Giraufis ruled the FDNY exams first given in 1999 and 2002 discriminated against black applicants and halted their use. The city later agreed to pay $98 million in back pay to those minorities passed over, and give some a second​ chance to join the department.

Sadly it's very true. Because minorities weren't passing the previous test, which was job related, they created this dumbed-down non-job related test. As always with affirmative action programs it's not about putting qualified people in jobs it's simply about filling a quota.

Don't know if it's real, but it would not be surprising. I posted an article a while back about the ridiculous new Air Traffic Controller test the FAA is using to try and increase minority passing rates.
