Rice vs. Coogs: Silver Glove Round 1
Here are the Rice and UH game notes...

http://www.riceowls.com/sports/m-basebl/...16aae.html
http://www.uhcougars.com/sports/m-basebl...16aab.html

After a slow start, the Coogs (13 - 6, 10-2 home) have now won 9 of their last 10 games-- including series wins over nationally ranked Alabama (who just took down LSU on the road) and Baylor-- and have earned a consensus Top 20 ranking in the various polls. Here's their schedule and results to date...

http://warrennolan.com/baseball/2016/schedule/Houston

I believe Willy Amador will be getting the start for the Owls, and UH will likely counter with both Jr RHP Marshall Kasowski (3 starts, 2-1, 13.1 IP, 2.70 ERA, 6 BBs, 17 Ks) and Fr RHP Mitch Ullcom (3 starts, 2-1, 16.1 IP, 3.86 ERA, 2 BBs, 13 Ks). Their bullpen is again a team strength, anchored by co-closers Sr RHP Bubba Maxwell (6 app, 2 saves, 13.0 IP, 2.08 ERA, 4 BBs, 17 Ks) and Jr RHP Nick Hernandez (7 app, 4 saves, 14.0 IP, 1.93 ERA, 1 BB, 16 Ks). All four of these guys have outstanding control, and all but Ullcom are power pitchers.

Offensively, they're hitting .274, with 17 HRs, 36 doubles/triples, 29-37 SBs and averaging 5.7 runs per game. They're led by Joe Davis (.408, 5 HRs, 10 doubles, 25 RBIs) and Connor Wong (.338, 3 HRs, 5 doubles, 10 RBIs, 7-9 SBs).

I cannot remember a time when there seemed to be so little perceived enthusiasm for a game against UH.

There is not much enthusiasm anywhere on this board as related to baseball...

I'll be at the game tonight and rooting for an Owl win. First time ever I remember where we weren't ranked and they were.

Winning brings enthusiasm. Not winning breeds whining (and worse) on this board.

Wayne's record vs UH: 81-32.

Can we get back to 50 games above .500????

Look at it another way: If we continue to play 3 games a year, UH will reach the .500 mark with a mere 17-year winning streak.

I have no feel for UH's team this year other than the 2 aces at the front (Lantrip, Romero) and the closers at the back (Maxwell, Hernandez). I am looking forward to an entertaining series again this year. Let us all hope to get these games in under 20 innings 03-lmfao

Owls load the bases with 3 singles to start off the game. Proctor grounds into a DP to score a run. 02-13-banana Myers hits a single to score another. 02-13-banana

We haven't had enough dancing bananas this year in our baseball threads.
2-0 Rice with 2 outs in the first. Wunderlich shows bunt with Myers on 1st.

Nice T1 for the Owls. Lots of dink and dunk. But they get the job done for a 2-0 lead going into B1

Amador a little all over the place. Hits a batter with 2 outs. Nearly hits the next guy.

Connor Teykl crushes a double off the RF wall. Then Dunlap launches one over the LF wall!

Our Mendoza Line crew of Teykl and Dunlap getting in on the fun! Now let's see if Hunter K can get on the board with a hit. Edit: nope. But 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Love Dunlap's power.

The left fielder didn't move much on that Dunlap shot.
Never in doubt.

Never in doubt.

The camera lost it but the way he reacted reminded me of that Rendon HR that landed by McDonald's across the street.

UH gets the leadoff runner on. Amador looked late to cover. 2nd guy flies out to CF.

It seems like Montemayor has been there for 10 years.
