Billy Gillispie Article: Could BG Make An ECU (or Tulane) a Winner?
He seems to be getting his life back on track, and it looks like he still has it. If I were Troy Dannen, I'd at least try and see what's there. This man can coach. They just made the NJCAA Final Four.

(Article) Billy Gillispie Making an Impact at Ranger College:

"The turnaround of the Ranger College Rangers has been nothing short of remarkable. 2-23 in 2015, now 28-5, and on their way to the NJCAA National Tournament. So, what caused the sudden change. Look no further than first year head coach Billy Clyde Gillispie."

lol. He could either be the guy on the left OR the guy on the right. He would be a force in the conference from day one. He just has it.

Maybe Greenville would be just the right temperature porridge.

If you're Tulane, what do you have to lose? You are at rock bottom already.

Pretty big risk but one a program like ours or Tulane should be willing to take at this point.

Alcoholism is a disease. There is a stigma but he just needs to be in a good situation. It seems like he's been doing that. That said, he is a coaching genius.

The answer to the question is absolutely yes but I don't see it happening.

Hopefully he stays where he is. It sounds like he has a good thing going and has his life on track. He is coaching (and AD) at a place that he went to school.

Leave him in peace....

RE: Billy Gillispie Article: Could BG Make An ECU (or Tulane) a Winner?
My hunch is that Gillispie will get an opportunity to coach in a league rated at the AAC's level or higher. And maybe that opportunity is about to happen now. It's been 4 years since he left Texas Tech and 7 years since he was fired at UK. That might be enough time for him to pull his life together. Of course, it also might *Not* be enough time; that's the risk with a situation like Gillispie's. Either way I hope he can enjoy a quiet, normal life.

I think it’s extremely short sighted of any mid major or major D1 program in or out of the AAC to not give him serious consideration.

Sign him to a 2 year guaranteed deal with an option to renew at a higher salary for year 3 and 4 and load the deal with incentives for wins and NIT and NCAA Tournament appearances. That limits your downside risk and lets him know if he does a good job and stays clean he will be around.

He said on the video piece he loves the idea of a rebuilding project.
He’s a proven winner at the D1 major conference level.
He’s in his 50’s so he knows the next stop may be his last.

Lots of incentives for him to keep his life on track and if an AAC program wants to rebuild quickly with a proven commodity it’s a risk with limited downside worth taking.
