Obama in Cuba, shameful
“The president promised he would visit Cuba when changes were made toward human rights,” said activist Carlos Puig. “Changes have been made. For the worse.”

In fact, just before Obama’s arrival, more than 50 demonstrators were arrested in the streets of Havana. They are “Las Damas de Blanco” — the Ladies in White. They are the wives and relatives of jailed anti-Castro activists who march to Mass each Sunday, as they have for nearly four years.

Video showing police pulling and dragging the women as they chanted for freedom only fueled the anger those against the president’s visit already feel.

Yep, socialism produces nothing but poverty and the abuse of human rights. Except of course, for a few at the top.

Castro will keep all of it like he does now. He keeps all of the money Cuban doctors make abroad. He wants Obama to cancel the USA cuban doctor defection program. He wants to be able to negotiate contracts for cubans who can play MLB. He will let them leave but he would keep a large portion of the MLB contract. Cuba has plenty of large AI resorts, like Jamaica DR,
but Americans have not gone their for obvious reasons.

You mean trying to normalize relations with Cuba didn't totally change their country over night?

And it didn't stop the rain in Cuba either?!?!?

When you say "trying to normalize relations" do yo umean the typical Obama playbook where he gives away the farm prior to getting concessions, so we end up with nothing to show for his negotiating skills?

All this is is more fodder for Trump to show that we need someone who can negotiate better. Another FailSuck for Obama.

Obama normalized relations prior to getting anything from the deal. Famously Fidel Castro promised open and free elections and it has never happened. Why would Castro and his inner circle give up power?

The White House says it's taking no offense that Cuban President Raul Castro didn't greet President Barack Obama upon arrival in Havana.

WH is spinning it of course.

Donald J. Trump ‎@realDonaldTrump
Wow, President Obama just landed in Cuba, a big deal, and Raul Castro wasn't even there to greet him. He greeted Pope and others. No respect

LMFAO at the idiotic pettiness here.

Quote:Ben Rhodes, Obama's deputy national security adviser, says it was "never contemplated or discussed" that Castro would be at the airport.

He said the Cubans consider Monday morning's ceremony with Obama and Castro to be the official welcome event.

Several dignitaries were on hand at the airport, including Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and Cuban Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Cabanas.

Is there nothing you won't seize upon to ridicule Obama? Pathetic indeed.

This is IMO the only thing in the entire 8 years that Obama has done positively. I have no problem with normalizing relations with Cuba. Time is on our side now. Communism in Cuba is doomed.

I agree with opening relations with Cuba....But there has to be something in it for the Cuban people. Not money given to the Castro regime, but allowing Cuban nationals freedom to start a business, freedom to travel to other countries, freedom to hold elections without fear of retaliation from the Castro regime. Freedom to hold a job that pays what the job is worth and with a livable tax rate to invest in infrastructure of Cuba to promote self capitalism for it's people. IE Changes that help all Cuban residences and Not the Communist revolutionaries that currently run the show.

How much $$$ will Obama make from Castro when he leaves office?

In fact, following initial imposition of the United States embargo against Cuba in 1962, Congress passed a law known as the “Bacardi Act” in 1999 to protect trademarks related to companies that had their assets confiscated by the Cuban government. [F/N 2]

The Administration’s move to award the Havana Club trademark to the Cuban government is a serious slap in the face to Bacardi, which issued a public statement noting how the “administration has reversed long-standing U.S. and international public policy and law that protects against the recognition or acceptance of confiscatory actions of foreign governments.” [F/N 5] The Administration’s support of the Cuban government over U.S. domestic interests in this case is, however, consistent with the Administration’s go-for-broke policy approach to restoring diplomatic relations with Cuba.

Cuban Doctors working abroad is a cash cow for Casto.
U.S. considers ending program that lures Cuban doctors to defect
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-cuba-u...4V20160108

The program has now been placed under review, said Ben Rhodes, a deputy national security advisor to Obama who was part of the negotiating team that reached detente with Cuba a year ago after 18 months of secret talks.

Cuba periodically sends medical brigades abroad to countries that have suffered natural disasters or health crises. In 2014 and 2015, it sent 256 doctors and nurses to West Africa in the middle of an Ebola virus outbreak.

But mostly the assignments are a revenue-earner for the Cuban government. It has sent 30,000 medical professionals to socialist ally Venezuela in exchange for more than 100,000 barrels per day of oil. Thousands more are in Brazil, typically in far-flung areas that Brazilian doctors avoid.

While the jobs are well-paid by Cuban standards and highly sought, the doctors receive only a fraction of the amount that the foreign governments pay for their services. Some defectors have cited harsh working conditions as reasons for abandoning their posts.

Obama would have traveled to Germany in 1940 and proclaimed a great new friendship with Hitler.
