Dixon going to TCU would be fine with me. The rumors on the VT message board this past week are that Buzz Williams was interested in the job. Any thing to keep Buzz another year.

+1. What do you think it would take for VT to keep Buzz indefinitely?

He won't be expected to win championships in the Big 12 as that honor always seems to go to Kansas (twelve in a row?)

Well, if he's lucky, Kansas and Oklahoma could move to the SEC. Pittsburgh is close to West Virginia, so maybe he has some insider info from the Dude. 05-stirthepot

Oklahoma maybe, but Kansas?....not in this lifetime!!

A big pay raise and a new basketball arena. That's assuming that Buzz would be willing to have a big buyout if the money were good enough. This $7 mil the first year, $3.5 mil the second year and $1.5 mil this Thursday is structured so that Buzz can leave pretty much any time he wants to and VT will not be compensated for it.

Combine that with his contract being structured in such a way that he can't be fired without cause is too generous to Buzz. I understand why we did it. It was necessary to get such a good coach to come to a school were it's very hard to win but if we start selling out basketball season tickets again like we did the first 6 years in the ACC we should be able to offer him more money and with that a more VT friendly buy out and maybe leave out the part where if he is fired, that we don't have to keep paying him even if he gets another head coaching job.

This would be a win/win for both TCU and Pitt. He's been a good regular season coach at Pitt, but always seems to choke in the tournament. In fact, I never pick Pitt past the first round for this very reason.

Is that because you don't think Kansas would accept an invite, or because you don't think the SEC would extend one?

I can't say for sure that Pitt will hire a better coach and there is something to be said for 11 NCAA bids in 13 seasons when you aren't a historical power. That said, Pitt was always a team you bet against in the tournament when it mattered most.
