Memphis needs all the hotel rooms it can get.

so why does it say 51 here...and '49.99 cash' on their sign?

https://www.priceline.com/stay/?refid=CO...2E179DAC6F

I didn't work at Super 8. And Super 8 is a national chain that is low priced.

There are ten or so hotels in that area (including Sycamore View/Shelby Oaks) and a couple are two star hotels.

no, I said "I just wish they would tear down those 40 buck motels across the street"

across the street from that mall is Macon Cv and Sycamore View...there are 2 hotels there...the Super 8 that's 51 online and has the '49.99 cash' sign...and a dump of a hotel that doesn't have a website and advertises for 45 bucks cash. (the old 'celebration station' needs to go too)

those are the 2 hotels I'm talking about..."(including Sycamore View/Shelby Oaks)" that area is past the interstate on sycamore view, that's not what I was talking about.

Fairfield Inn, Memphis Inn, Budgetel Inn, Super 8, Econolodge, Quality Inn, LaQuinta, Days Inn, Rodeway Inn, and Motel 6 are in that immediate area. Plus more hotels pass the overpass.

Those might be budget priced, but that is one of the biggest collections of hotel rooms in the area.

I show you proof I'm correct...and you still argue

there is no defending a 49.99 rat motel full of hookers and drug dealers...esp next to a college campus...

what happened to your bold "The rate was $99 a night over fifteen years ago." tripe? now it's "budget priced"

I'm sure if you ask real nice they'll rent to you by the hour, and give you a towel with no blood stains on it.

I never said there weren't dirt cheap rooms there. I said not all of them were.

So while you are caught up on right and wrong, you are completely ignoring my point.

There is a place in the economy for those motel price points.

And the hourly type seedy hotels like you'd find on EPB or 3rd are completely different than the ones in that area. Other than Memphis Inn, those hotels are national brands.

I was at the summer store about 3 weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon and there was maybe 15 people in it

a friend of mine used to work there and said they got a sweetheart deal on that place when the Walmart (or was it K-Mart?) moved out...as long as that hasn't changed, I'm sure it turns a profit, and I doubt they close it.

It was Walmart. Back when they were Wal-Mart. The old school kind that looked like a big Fred's Store.

and I'm telling you that's not so...there are 2 of those type at the corner of sycamore view and macon cove...the rest over there are fine...but those two need to go IMHO.

Memphis Inn may be the one I was thinking of...but we'll agree to disagree

You'll be glad you know about those hotels when you actually get an old lady and decide to step out on her.

BassPro hit 3 million visitors before it's one year anniversary...it appears the boo-birds were wrong yet again :-)

Quote:hey came. They saw. They bought fudge, 56 tons of it.

Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid officials said fudge was a big hit among three million people who experienced their Memphis riverfront store during its first year.

The store marked its first anniversary on Friday expecting a turnstile count to hit 3 million over the weekend. Because some visitors don't come through turnstiles, officials were confident they'd already reached the milestone.

General manager David Hagel said the store had logged visitors from every state and several foreign countries.

Just Imagine what Mud Island could do given the right mix of attractions like a visually stunning Star Flyer and coaster being a small part of it.

Yurts ain't it.

As long as they arent downtown limited service, non-convention caliber sub 500 room properties. Those do more harm than good.

Nice. I hope they develop a themed district around kids and outdoor properties to enhance the landmarks of the immediate area. Autobahn, trampoline park, Lego/Hot Wheels, REI, Outdoors, Victory/Performance, craft soda/ice cream/candy, rock climbing wall, zip lines etc. Kids and families from St Jude, Harbortown, etc could just walk there and distract themselves for a day or more.

Im not a big coaster guy, but maybe it could work

There is a rock climbing wall down Auction where that "inverted" building is. I don't know if it is public though.

Should be a zip line from the Pyramid to Mud Island near the Amphitheater and back. Great views of the river and skyline.

I think it's open 1 day a week to the public. I'm hoping for a dedicated gym. Soulsville announced some sort of climbing gym but I dont know the deets, may still be preliminary...

But thanks for the reminder!

You seem to get it. A Lego Discovery Center with a add on Madame Tussards or Dungeon or a Sealife if Memphis zoo can not get a new aquarium off the ground. Pitch a Hersey's Chocolate World location, an American Girl location, a T Tex Cafe. Coasters and such is for the north part of Mud Island modeled asthetically after Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen but with a Memphis vibe. Another option would be a Polar coaster project, supposedly Nashville is getting one. I think a collection of up a dozen rides on the Mud Island plot (old Memphis Belle area) simply themed with ornamental ironwork in shared colors is best though.

The ideas for the Pinch Area is spot on. Include a hotel with a substantial indoor waterpark.

I'll do the bullet points yet again:

•new Convention Center/stadium combo off of Beale

•redevelop Cooke area as part of overall Pinch project (resort hotel with indoor waterpark)

•add a selective selection of top class rides to north part of Mud Island

•Memphis zoo build new Aquarium on Mud Island. Promote visiting both and using new trolley line connecting it with the current zoo, part of parking solution.

•upgrade Museum/add Disney Soarin' style ride featuring the whole Mississippi River.

•update Amp with additional seats, facilities and open air covering to give it a Sydney Opera House effect on the skyline, does not interfere with view of skyline for concert goers.

•Create a festive Christmas vibe on Island, place large Christmas Tree in the Gulf of Mexico with an impressive music and lighting show for it. Start a Christmas Market mimicking those in Europe, permanent structure that serves as a seasonal ice rink in Winter and splash pad in Summer.

•land bridge connecting Mud Island to Beale St. Landing

• new restaurants on Island.

•Island stays free to visit, charge for monorail, museum, aquarium, and rides separately or as a bundle.

Ive been to the pyramid one, and its cool. However, I still go to the Macon one mostly. Its closer, easier to get in and out, and less people.

The Pyramid Bass Pro is more of a statement/flagship type store or touristy spot, with shopping as a secondary thing to do.
