2016 Roster
is out on the WMU website. Several surprises:

No longer on roster:
Ben Dreslinski QB -former walkon
Austin Lewis LB -what happened here? Expected starter!
Ian Thomas CB -former transfer from Rutgers expected to play
Antoine Stone DB -only would have been Soph.
Tyree Stone-Davis DB -JC transfer that was expected to play
Darryn Gorman WR -walkon
Jason Sylva LB -previously reported to transfer, would have played
Stephen Davis WR -walkon
Taylor Reaume LB -walkon and former teammate of Grace
Joe Boggan DL -walkon
Josh Bass OL -previously reported to transfer
Alec Moulton WR -walkon who was on schollie for one year
Jason Meichtry WR -walkon
Eric Boyden TE -injured this past year, maybe medically not able to go?

Still on roster (is this for real??)
Trevor Sweeney ST -thought he graduated?
JaKevin Jackson LB -pretty sure he was honored on SR day?
James Kristoff OL -mentioned as GR player??
Jarrell McKinney DE -I know he was honored on SR day.

RE: 2016 Roster
Sweeney is only going to be a true senior. He never redshirted. Jackson should have one year of eligibility left. Kristof and Mckinney both took part in the Pro Day last week. I thought Kristof could possibly apply for a 6th year medical red-shirt but that is only speculation.

Bass transferred to GVSU,
Boyden was a senior last year.
Sylva transferred to Idaho.

Lewis, Stone, Stone-Davis, Thomas are all surprises and would love to know what happened to them.

Stone left a while ago. Forget the name but it's a smaller school.

Edit: Notre Dame College

RE: 2016 Roster
Steven Davis is a real blow. Montini HS in Chicago suburb Villa Park.

WMU has an offer out to a RB that someone said looked like another Bogan.

The crushing aspect here is that Steven's mom is Allison Rosati who is an anchor at WGN TV. Long time Chicago fav who will now be pissed and making sure no Chi-town love is directed at WMU.

Wtf...now there are even more questions marks in the secondary and LBs. Losing Lewis, Thomas and Stone-Davis hurts.

Really? Was she really giving us a lot of "Chi-town love" with her son getting a walk-on opportunity?

Austin Lewis is the only loss, and there's plenty of talent in waiting. The rest were primarily back ups and practice fodder. Thinning of the heard.

Don't be using a bunch of walkons eaving as an excuse for Peej. He likes his shiny new objects (freshmen), and I'm sure is quite content using a few.

Being a Walk-on is like being a fire hydrant at a dog show.

Very few willing to do it for more than a year.

That kind of attrition happens everywhere.

Told you Austin Lewis wouldn't be starting this year for the Broncos.

RE: 2016 Roster
I think the biggest loss isn't Lewis. The guy I don't see on there that was expected to be a boost is Evan Winston at DT.

Although there appears to have been a bunch of mistakes with the roster, and maybe Winston was just left off for some reason, because Kyle Knapp isn't on there either and he is definitely part of the football team right now.

It is frustrating having to speculate and using a roster that is known to have errors. I sure hope Winston is still with the team. We need a strong nose guard.

I'm not worried about losing walkons. That's just trimming the fat. But there are questions in the secondary and I don't like losing guys that have experience.

Yeah, I thought Thomas showed some ability in the limited time he got, and he was a versatile piece that played both CB and S. This is why a lot of coaches ask for five years. It takes those recruiting classes to build depth and allow guys to grow into roles, not just continually play freshmen.

We do have some talent to replace these guys, but as a fan I don't like seeing this cycle of freshmen and redshirt freshmen always having to be the ones to step in.

If we lost Winston, now we have a situation where Agguire may have to play right away. Ideally, all freshmen DL and OL guys should be a red shirt. Time for Kenny Finley and Nick Matich to step up their play.

Well I certainly didn't consider the scenario of him not even being on the roster.. if it's even accurate?

It's accurate. I hinted in another thread a while ago that a defensive player was on the move from our roster. Lewis is who I was talking about.

Just heard he is in California somewhere now. Don't even know if it was to transfer for football.

RE: 2016 Roster
With Curle, FIndley, and Katich are all experienced DTs. If Aguirre is any good that makes 4 deep. Most MAC Teams are lucky to have one legit DT, they're that hard to find.

Winston was a 4 star out of HS that got buried on Mizzos depth chart. I'm guessing there was a reason for that because he certainly had the measurables. Worst case scenario, they're knee deep on the oline. Move a more mobile one over to the other side. They're not going to chase anyone down but they'll fill a gap, and make you 4 or 5 deep.

You guys are just looking for excuses if Peej fails.

Yeah, that Ifkovitz kid was a DL in high school and is kind of a fatty that should be tough to move at least.

Don't forget about Daniel Jackson who saw some time as a freshman last year. Have heard that he is one of the guys that made the biggest jumps in their strength program.
