They actually run sets and communicate on defense. I wonder how much season tickets are for their games?

RE: East HS - state champs
Once again it was two Memphis schools playing for the State title. Cordova beat a 34-1 mid state team while East beat a undefeated 33-0 mid state team also. I know the Cordova coach caused a bit of a stir up there before the tourney when he said "No disrespect to the rest of the field, but the hardest part of this tournament is getting out of Memphis". Congrats to East and Cordova for winning games before thousands of fans from the mid state schools they had to defeat to get to the finals.

I've played in, as well as watched, a bunch of games in the state tournament. The East/Cordova game was officiated pretty evenly. This has historically not been the case when Shelby Co teams have faced middle/east TN teams. Traditionally, it is extremely biased officiating leaning opposite of Memphis teams. Does anyone else agree with this sentiment?

Yes, this not only happens in basketball but in many other sports also. I've witnessed in football and wrestling.

CA has an article up on the East victory, and John Varlas does a good job, especially on twitter during the playoff games.

But Penny Hardaway's name is not mentioned in his article. Quotes from an East asst. coach and the Cordova head coach. But no mention of Penny, who wins a state title in his 1st year as head coach. Not implying anything sinister, just surprising.

I saw some of that game. The East kids have much respect for their head coach and he coaches them.

Penny has taken an AAU team to the Peach Jam championship game. Now a HS state championship in his first year. Building a resume.

The TV announcer said the Penny cannot be considered the head coach at that level. Did anyone hear that? So Penny evidently is not officially the coach, even though he clearly is running the team. Can anyone give details?

Yes. Since he runs an AAU program (Team Penny) he cannot be a HS head coach. So even though he is the acting head coach, in name, he is just an assistant. BTW - an aside to that piece of information is that clown show Pastner has offered TJ Moss (a Soph. on this team) and not Alex Lomax. A-Lo, who is also a sophomore, won AAA Mr. Basketball, Gatorade State of TN POY, and MVP in the state tourney. Every time I think of the fact that we are literally stuck with Josh I want to 03-puke

He has offered Tyler Harris. Maybe he thinks Harris is better and don't want to offend him by offering A-Lo.

I totally agree. Been going forever and that's always been the case.
