Question for Temple fans...
It seems to me that, of all the Philly schools, St. Joe's gets a disproportionate share of love, particularly from the national media. 'Nova probably gets the most, but they do have the strong history in the BE, not to mention a natty. St. Joe's usually comes in right behind them. My question is: why?

Trust me, I appreciate a good smart-ass reply as much as anyone (check my history on this board), but it goes back way further than Roofie Huxtable.

I think it's a point in time discussion. This year Saint Joseph's has an outstanding team and deserves to be recognized. Of course Villanova has also had an outstanding year.

However, the Big 5 has seen Temple lead the way with 27 titles to Villanova with 22 and Saint Josephs with 20 titles. Temple has had more then it's share of success.

In 1999, the round robin for the city was resumed. Since then Villanova has dominated with 10 titles (8 of them outright), Temple second with 5, and Saint Joseph's next with 3.

St Joe's coach is awesome. Throw in that flapping hawk and their band box gym that's always rocking and it's a nifty little program. Now that they beat UC, I hope they keep trucking.

Villanova can suck it. A bunch of stuck up suburban kids who couldn't get into a really good school so just pretend they are going to one (like TCU or Baylor for those of us in Texas).

RE: Question for Temple fans...
They're in a sweet spot for media attention. They're not in a power conference, so they fit well in the "little guy" stories. At the same time, they're in the A-10, which is visible enough that sports media is pretty familiar with them. And they're in Philadelphia, so covering them doesn't require traveling to the outer end of the boondocks.

So they're eligible for any Cinderella story you want to write, they're familiar to the writers, and they're geographically accessible.

Eh, I'll bite.

Not sure where the OP is coming from, Temple basketball gets way more attention than Saint Joe's and slightly less than Villanova (which is to be expected based on the talent disparity right now)

However, Temple's football season received way more attention, locally and nationally, than anything Villanova has done all season. Philadelphia has never been a huge college sports town -- then Gameday came for Temple / ND and people realized the type of program Temple can develop into.

Great year in sports for Temple.

Temple getting some national love here. 15 P5 programs and the Owls.

Personally, I think Drexel, LaSalle and Immaculatta are more popular.

I agree vaNtR, Temple as an institution and as an athletics department dwarfs the High School on City Line Ave.
