Why?

I really need to explain this to you? If you are a NFL scout are you going to go to a school featuring one player who may be able to make it in the NFL or are you going to go to a school featuring many players who may be able to make in the NFL? Where is the bigger bang for your buck? Obviously the school that has many players. While EMU has had some very nice NFL prospects and some who have actually been very productive on NFL rosters the majority of EMU football players have not shown enough talent to be viable NFL prospects. Add to that the caliber of the schedule, game in and game out, that UM football players are involved in and I think you have your answer. In other words, there may be a player or two at EMU who may be prepared to play on a NFL roster but the likelihood is that UM players are better prepared. Therefore, a NFL scout's time is better spent at a pro day at the UM than it would be at a pro day at EMU. I think that's pretty evident.

RE: Pro Day
It was good to see two CFL teams at EMU's pro day, EMU has some very decent CFL players over the course of its history and a number of Canadian high school school kids have done well here.

Let the record also show that Bovine said that Jackson was, "SLOW." I wish I was 4.3 40 slow.

What?! Just like scouts didn't go to Mississippi Valley State to watch Jerry Rice? Or Jackson State to check out Walter Payton? Scouts will go anywhere to check out anyone. Also, in case you weren't aware, EMU is not exactly off the beaten path...it is in metro freakin' DETROIT. Honestly, some of these so called football fans should stick to....chess...ballet.

The fact that NFL scouts attended EMU's pro day defeats your theory, which is that they only go where they can find the most prospects. Obviously, some chose to be at EMU, not uofm.

Your theory seems to rely on the dubious premise that NFL teams have but one scout and cannot be in two places at once.

Here are some of my thoughts:
- A team in real need of a RB would have gone wherever prospects like DJ were, even if they had to send scouts to more than one location.
- The value of having a scout at these locations is overrated. If reports are accurate, not every NFL team went to uofm's pro day. You and I can look up DJ's results of each event. Teams that did not see him know what he did and can further investigate. His draft status was not determined on pro day.
- The value to DJ of going to uofm's pro day instead of EMU's was marginal. Every team in the league now knows what he did, if they were there or not.

DJ obviously did the right thing, performed great, probably moved himself into late rounds of the draft. I have never bothered in the past, but I will be watching the late rounds of this draft with hopes that DJ is chosen by the Lions.

If it happens, his name and EMU will come up a lot in the next year in the MI media. Not a huge deal, but another little way to keep EMU in the minds of MI recruits.

Every little bit helps.

You've created a straw man. It's an argument that can easily be refuted, but nobody is asserting but yourself. That straw man is, "all of the NFL scouts are going to show up at EMU for one player." Of course I never said that, not even close.

We're on the same side, HR. It's time for me to give up on this minor dispute and wish you well.

I wish you well also but I'll let Jackson's actions speak for him. He obviously felt he had a better shot at making a statement at UofM's pro day than at EMU's pro day. Regardless of what you and I say or speculate about that is the decision he made.

This is the type of post that does the most disservice to EMU. It is negative, patronizing, insulting to the program, and patently inaccurate. NFL teams have huge budgets and would send a scout to Anchorage to see a punter if they needed one, let alone Ypsilanti, which is in the middle of football playing civilization. Verdict: dumb post, you're fired.

I blocked "Bob Wickersham" a long time ago; so, I don't even see his BS comments unless someone else cites him.

Update on Jackson: has met/worked out with the Chiefs, Raiders, and Jets in the past week. Has more scheduled with Dolphins, Ravens, and Lions coming up.

Looking like he may have a serious shot to get in the draft. Wish him the best of luck.
