Tiger basketball is being destroyed from the inside; and it seems intentional
The contract. The way Opie is allowed to talk about fans and our program and even those who are paying his check. The constant turnover of players. The never living up to expectations. A nearly 75% dip in actual attendance. The loss of Memphis kids to hated programs like Kentucky & Tennessee. All of this going unpunished.
It's as if our program hit its pennacle in 05-09, and ever since every bad thing that could possibly go wrong has. Everyone running our athletic department, from Rudd to Bowen to Pastner. Hell, even Fuente stopped trying after we went 8-0. It's like there is a force that is constantly sitting outside our athletic departments doors just waiting to ensure we are held in check anytime we begin to succeed. Name another program besides maybe SMU that is constantly held in check every time it has success.
Now however, our program is being destroyed from the inside out. This firing should be a no brainier. From the loss of revenue to the defiant little weasel Opie has become. This should have happened 3 months ago. Much less now.
Our fans are as tuff as nails for enduring this yet they go insulted by their fearless pansy of a leader.
Our program is being intentionally destroyed. That is the only logical answer.

Whose money are you spending to fire him?

Stfu. Are you paying his contract? Besides. If a loss of 10,000 fans hasn't woken them up, nothing will.

It doesn't cost any money to fire him but it does cost money to hire another coach. Why do I have to keep repeating this?

It's literally gonna cost the U of M a ton of money.. Way more than 2.6 million a year to keep him.. No concession money and no fans and a huge drop again in TSF donations.. Have fun because I will not be a part of the fiasco..

But it doesn't cost the big donors a penny to keep him.

Then most likely we'll become fodder for them, like we did for UConn in the last game. Joining a powerconference doesn't make him a coach.

There is no (additional) money needed to fire him and there is no buyout. People and even the media don't seem to understand this.
There is money pledged to pay him. The question (as I said months ago) is: does the money exist (soft pledge) to get a new coach? Does this money come from the same source (one or more boosters) that are paying the rest of pastner's contract? Even if you find new sources (boosters) to pay for a new coach, do you risk alienating the boosters paying the Pastner contract or other big boosters?
Within the answers to the aforementioned questions lies the reasoning behind the current decision to retain Pastner.

I said this some time ago - big boosters are usually a relatively small group of folks for a school - it did not seem feasible to me that we could go to the same group who are paying this contract and ask them to pay for another coach. I admitted in every post that there may be information that I am not privy to and that a buyout negotiated by both parties was a possibility but as the current contract and funding through boosters exists it was more likely than not that he would be retained.
